  The Pony Express was operated by the firm of Russell, Majors and
Waddell from St. Joseph, Mo., to Sacrament, Ca. Service over the
route was started April 3, 1860 and was maintained continously for an
18 month period. There were 190 stations along the route of more than
2000 miles. There were 40 division points, involving states of
Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and California.
