VEDIT's flexible configuration lets you tailor it to the particulars of your computer and "customize" it to your applications, personal preferences and keyboard layout. For example, you could select to have tab positions set to 10, 25 and 30, the "right margin" set to column 65 and "justification" enabled. You can even select the character to be displayed at the end of lines (where the "newline" is) and the "fill character" used to display Tab characters. You can select the cursor type and cursor blink rate or a non-blinking cursor. VEDIT can be configured to a wide variety of hardware. All VGA screen sizes such as 132 x 60 are supported. All colors used in VEDIT can be configured. An important feature is the ability to completely determine your own keyboard layout - what control or function key you will press to perform each edit function. This demo asks you to press, for example, "" to access the menu system. However, you can assign the [MENU] function to any key. You can even assign it to two different keys. The same holds for all edit functions. You can start with a keyboard layout we supply, such as the "normal", Brief(tm), WordStar (tm) or Word Perfect (tm) layouts, perhaps modifying them a little. Or you can create your own keyboard layout, perhaps using one you are already familiar with from another editing/word processing program. You can add new keystroke macros at any time. You can enter them directly using a special window or have VEDIT record your keystrokes while you edit. VEDIT PLUS's powerful macro language lets you create your own editing functions and assign them to a key using keystroke macros. A library of keystroke macros is supplied that includes "duplicate line", "open line", "transpose letters", "word count" and many others. The VEDIT editors have two levels of configuration. 1. Most configuration changes can be made via menus. The {CONFIG} sub-menu lets you change the Tab stops, "Word processing", "Programming", "Colors", "Screen display", "File handling", "Emulation" and "Misc" options. You can also change the "Printing" and "Searching" options. The {CONFIG, Save into VEDIT} function makes the changes permanent by saving the current configuration settings and, optionally, any new keystroke macros into the "VEDIT.EXE" file. 2. The current configuration can also be saved to a disk file with {CONFIG, Save to Disk}. Similarly, the keyboard layout can be saved to disk with {MISC, Keyboard Layout, Save to Disk}. These files can easily be edited and loaded back into VEDIT. In the simplest case, the VEDIT.EXE file contains the complete configuration; start up is not slowed down by separate configuration files. On the other hand, a network administrator can configure a single executable VEDIT.EXE for many users. Individual users can then have VEDIT load a configuration file at startup which satisfies their personal preferences.
