Files that end with a '%' on the program disk are compressed. If you ever need to decompress one of them manually, use the LGEXPAND.EXE utility provided on your release disk. Example: lgexpand a:\touch.ex% c:\touch\touch.exe 2. TWAIN application program interface The FotoTouch User's Guide references the CLASP application program interface. CLASP was the code name used during the development of the application program interface. The official name is now TWAIN. 3. Image for Exercise 4 (Multiple-Strip Scanning With AutoStitch) Please use the enclosed photograph of the car for exercise 4 in the ScanMan Software User's Guide instead of figure 2-8. The resulting image will look and stitch better since the printing process used for the photograph is of higher quality than that used for the User's Guide. 4. Not enough memory If you get the not enough memory prompt, there are three things you can do to correct this. One solution is to scan a strip which uses less memory. This is done by scanning a shorter strip or using a lower resolution setting. The second solution is to free memory and/or hard disk space. FotoTouch and ScanMan uses both memory and the hard disk to temporarily store the strips. To calculate a rough estimate of the size of each strip, refer to the "Tips & Techniques" section in the ScanMan User's Guide. The third solution is to exit ScanMan and FotoTouch, then rerun FotoTouch and Acquire ScanMan. Doing so deletes any extra resources created by FotoTouch and ScanMan, thus freeing some space. 5. Cleanup after unexpected termination In case FotoTouch or ScanMan unexpectedly terminates, exit Windows. There may be some temporary files that FotoTouch and ScanMan left on your hard disk. These files are named "~ANSxxxx.TMP" where xxxx is a random sequence of numbers and letters. Delete these files. Also you should run the DOS command CHKDSK as follows: CHKDSK /F Because of the unexpected termination, there could be some files left opened. Running CHKDSK corrects this. Refer to your DOS manual for more information. 6. Norton Desktop If you run the install program and the Program Group box is dimmed, cancel the installation. From the Norton Desktop window, choose Preferences from the Configure menu. Enable the Quick Access on Startup option. After you click OK, choose Save Configuration from the Configure menu. You can now install FotoTouch. To ensure that FotoTouch is added to Quick Access, make sure that the Save Configuration on Exit option in the Configure Preferences dialog box is enabled before installing FotoTouch. 7. FotoTouch Macro for Microsoft Word for Windows TOUCH1.DOC and TOUCH2.DOC contain the FotoTouch Macros for Microsoft Word for Windows 1.1 and 2.0, respectively. To install the macro, open TOUCH1.DOC or TOUCH2.DOC from Word for Windows and follow the instructions. 8. FotoTouch Macro for Ami Pro TOUCH.SMM contains the FotoTouch Macro. TOUCH.SAM contains the instructions for installing and using the FotoTouch Macro. To install the macro, open TOUCH.SAM in Ami Pro version 1.2b or above and follow the instructions. If an Error 81 appears when you run the Ami Pro macro, it is because you didn't save the image before leaving FotoTouch. You should recall the macro, then save the image in FotoTouch before minimizing or closing FotoTouch. For Ami Pro 2.0, you should copy TOUCH.SMM to the Ami Pro macro directory. 9. PS/2 Model 80 On most PS/2 machines, running the automatic configuration from the reference disk works properly. On the model 80, the automatic configuration doesn't always give you a valid setting for your computer. You must manually set the DMA level of the hard disk. The DMA level used for the hard disk should be smaller than the DMA level you want to use for your scanner adapter. 10. You can use the "temp2" variable under [Logitech FotoTouch] in WIN.INI to overwrite the default place used for the second temporary image swap file. FotoTouch normally looks on drives C, D, and E for the largest free space and a drive different from the one used for the first temporary swap file. FotoTouch obtains the drive for the first temporary swap file from Windows. Windows usually returns the drive specified by the "TEMP=xxx" DOS environment variable or the root directory C drive. To set the "temp2" variable modify your WIN.INI file. Under the heading [Logitech FotoTouch] put the following line: temp2=(drive and directory) Note: It is important to keep a large amount of empty disk space in both the "temp" and "temp2" drives. 11. Not enough disk space during install The ScanMan installation program copies several files to your Windows directory. If you have less than 500 kilobytes of free disk space on the drive where Windows is installed, the install program displays an error message asking for more disk space on the drive where Windows is installed. If you are running Windows in 386 enhanced mode and you have approximately 1 megabyte of free disk space, the install program may display an error message asking for more disk space. Windows creates some temporary files when you run under 386 enhanced mode. Because of this, the amount of disk space available is less than what you had before starting Windows. 12. Black and white ScanMan scanners If you select 300 dpi while scanning in gray scale document mode and using a landscape scan mode, the resulting image may be distorted. To bypass this, select the portrait single or portrait multiple strip modes to scan, or scan in landscape mode using 100, 200, or 400 dpi. 13. Scanning tip If you cannot merge images successfully, try putting a two cross marks that are at least 1/2 inch tall and wide, one at the top and the other at bottom of the image. The two cross marks should be placed in the area where the two scan strips overlap each other. After the strips are merged, use FotoTouch to crop the cross marks. If you cannot merge landscape images successfully, try scanning them in portrait mode. Changing the orientation could change the distinct features found in the overlap area. These features aide AutoStitch in merging the strips. Please refer to the ScanMan User's Guide for guidelines for scanning an image in multiple strips. 14. FotoMan If version 1.0 of the Logitech FotoMan Digital Camera is currently installed on your system, you must specify a different destination directory when you install this FotoTouch/ScanMan package. This version of FotoTouch is not compatible with FotoMan. This issue is currently being addressed and a FotoMan update will be available shortly. To receive any update information, make sure to send in your registration card for FotoMan. 15. Bitstream FaceLift If you print an image from FotoTouch and blank pages are outputted, check to see if Bitstream FaceLift is active. You should disable FaceLift by clicking the Parameters icon from the Bitstream FaceLift group icon and remove the X from the FaceLift active box. Click OK to close the dialog box. Save settings before exiting Windows, then restart Windows. Alternatively you can make FaceLift inactive for the printer by clicking the Printers icon, and enabling the Unassign SHELL-Driver option. FaceLift uses a shell-driver that intercepts the printer commands sent normally to your printer driver. By unassigning the shell-driver, you allow Windows to use the normal printer driver to print.
