The June edition of Radio Communication was posted to all RSGB members last week. Members' comments are sought on a number of proposals: Firstly, there is a list of papers submitted to this September's IARU Region 1 Conference concerning ways of providing more spectrum for packet radio on 144MHz. Secondly, there is an invitation to contribute to an EMC standard for amateur radio equipment within the new European Community EMC regulations. And lastly, the RSGB's 'constitution', known as the Memorandum of Association, has been reviewed and comments are invited. Attention RSGB Members in the North East of England. RLOs hold a wide range of information and should be used by RSGB members seeking advice. News now of an expedition to the Outer Hebrides. GM0GMN and GM4KHE have been allocated two special callsign, GB0IB - Isle of Barra and GB0OH - Outer Hebrides. The callsigns will be aired from Thursday the 10th through to Thursday the 17th of June. Activity will be on most HF bands using CW and SSB. There will be activity also from the Island of Vatersay, using the callsign GM4KHE/M. Charlie Newton, G2FKZ, who submits our propagation news each week, reports on two new beacons which form part of the ITU's HF band field strength measurement campaign. The stations, LN2A and VK4IPS, operate on 5.470, 7.870, 10.407, 14.405, and 20.945MHz. They transmit for 4 minutes on each frequency starting on the hour in a 20 minutes cycle. Now some dates for your diary: RSGB HQ Open Day will be on Saturday the 19th of June. This is a chance for all members and non-members to tour the Society's administrative Headquarters, visit the GB3RS shack and see the Library and Museum. The Annual AMSAT-UK Colloquium takes place from the 29th of July to the 2nd of August. This is the major event for those interested in satellites, whether they are experts or beginners. Special events now: TM6PAX commemorates the anniversary of the Normandy landings, and will be near the landing beaches. Operation will be from 0000GMT on Saturday the 5th, to 1200GMT on Sunday the 6th of June inclusive. the station will use 80 to 10 metres excluding WARC bands, plus 2 metres and 70 centimetres, CW and SSB. For CW check 14kHz up from band edge. On HF SSB: 3614, 7054, 14194, 21294 and 28414KHz. On VHF SSB 144.314MHz and UHF SSB 432.214MHz. The landings are also remembered in the UK this weekend by GB6OL at Southsea Common, Portsmouth. GB8WA will be on this weekend from the Perch rock Lighthouse, at the entrance to the Mersey, commemorating Liverpool's role on controlling the Western Approaches during World War two. Finally in the main news, SSL has informed the Society that as of last Wednesday morning, the latest callsigns issued were in the G0 T T and G7 O W series, and Novice calls in the 2 0 A F and 2 1 B W series. Now some items of HF DX news from the weekly RSGB DX News Sheet which is edited by Brendan McCartney, G4DYO. From Ascension Island, N6TJ will sign ZD8X during June. From the Dodecanese Islands, SM7DAY will sign SV5/Own Call from today until Thursday the 10th of June. Activity will be CW only and using QRP. Check around 14060KHz. From Copeland Island, the callsign GI4GTY will be aired by the Lagan Valley Amateur Radio Society from Friday the 11th to Sunday the 13th of June on the HF bands, 80 to 10 Metres. HF contests: The RSGB's HF National Field Day takes place over next weekend, starting at 1500GMT on Saturday the 5th, for 24 hours. See February RadCom page 66 for further details. As this is the event's Golden Jubilee, a special certificate will be awarded to each group submitting an entry. An article celebrating 60 years of NFD can be found in June's RadCom. This weekend, the CQ WPX contest is running on all HF bands, excluding the WARC bands. It ends at midnight tonight.
