             Pinnacle Software, the distributor of LOVEFIRE, THE VARITALE 
        AUTHORING  SYSTEM  and a variety of shareware programs  has  just 
        come  out with a new "Maxi" collection of their  programs.   When 
        they   say  "Maxi,"  they  aren't  kidding.   The  programs   are 
        distributed on two 1.44MB disks, and the programs are compressed.  
        You,  therefore, need both a 1.44MB disk drive and a  hard  drive 
        with a 2.65MB of space to hold the COMPRESSED files.  Double that 
        space would be needed if you decompress all of the programs.
        
             Only  a  few  of  the programs  are  related  to  electronic 
        publishing.  Most are for Bulletin Board System users.   However, 
        there is a little bit for everyone.
        
        Here is what is available:
        
        1) The See Utilities
             Programs to:
             --Browse & print files
             --Set up a DOS shell
             --Create on-disk books , magazines, etc.
             --Document and integrate programs that you write
             These five programs are freeware.
        
             NOTE:  these files will be found in the  compressed  SEE.EXE 
        file.  For decompression instructions, see the SEE.DOC file.
        
        2) HandsOff
        
             This is a software burglar alarm program.  Freeware.
        
        3) ForAge
        
             This  utility feeds the filename of the newest  (or  oldest) 
        file in a group of files to another command such as an  automatic 
        backup or applications where data files are processed in time and 
        date order.  Freeware.
        
        4) Parse-O-Matic
        
             This program moved data between programs that normally don't 
        understand  each  other's  data.   It uses  a  text  editor  (not 
        included) to convert data files.  Registration: $25.00

        5) MakeName

             This  utility  lets you create multiple versions of  a  data 
        file without overwriting earlier versions.  Registration:$6.00
        
        6) Screen Save
        
             Prevent burning in of your monitor.  Freeware.
             NOTE:  a similar program is included with this program.  See 
        the SCR_SAVE files.
        
        7) GO
        
             A  utility to implement a menu-driven  installation  program 
        for compressed files.  It requires a dearchiver such as  PKUNZIP.  
        Registration: $19.00.
            NOTE: The GO program is used with the Maxi Collection and  is 
        a  nice feature.  If you are distributing compressed files,  look 
        at this program.
        
        8) G
        
             This is a GOTO replacement for DOS's CD command.  Freeware.
        
        9) Ultra-Quiz
        
             This  is  a  trivia quiz for  experts  only.   Registration: 
        $1.00.
        
        10) New Horizons in Cyberpunk
        
             This is a collection of a dozen entries to a contest to come 
        up with new ideas in the real of technical wizardry.  Some of the 
        stories may not be suitable for immature audiences.  Freeware.
        
        11) Munch
        
             This is a file encryption program.  description is  achieved 
        with a code word.  Freeware.
        
        12) LoveFire
        
             An interactive romance novella.  Freeware.
             
        13) HLRB

             "Handy  Little  Reference  Book" which lets  you  print  out 
        wallet-sized booklets.  Freeware.
        
        14) The Hitch-hiker's Quiz
        
             A quiz on the subject of Douglas Adams science fiction work.  
        Registration: $15.00 (gets you a new quiz)
        
        15) DaSi
        
             An Ouiji board.  Requires a mouse.  Registration: $15.00
        
        16) Sapphire Door Support
        
             Converts  RBBS  and  QBBS  doors  to  run  under  Pinnacle's 
        Sapphire Bulletin Board System.
        
        17) Pinnacle Help
        
             This  is a program for shareware authors to replace  READ.ME 
        files  with  a  "slick"  interface.   Requires  a  text   editor.  
        Registration: $15.00.

        18) Sapphire
        
             This is a "simple, safe, and reliable" BBS system.  Requires 
        a modem.  Registration: $45.00.
        
        19) AutoGive
        
             A  utility  for Sapphire to download  files.   Registration: 
        $15.00.
        
        20) HowDoor
            
             A tutor program on how BBS doors work.  Freeware.
        
        21) DoorMaster
        
             A utility to convert BBS door information files to  Sapphire 
        compatibility.
        
        22) Free Speech
        
             A  BBS system that supports up to three languages.   English 
        and   French   text   is  provided.    Required:   Smart   Modem.

        23) Pyroto Mountain
        
             A  game  for  BBS use.  Required:  a  modem.   Registration: 
        $45.00 ($90.00 with TP5 source.)
        
        24) SmartPhone
        
             An  area  code  database; includes time zone  and  zip  code 
        information; can be searched by area code, city, country, or two-
        letter mail abbreviations.  Registration: $17.00
        
        25) NameBBS
        
             A utility to invent names for a BBS.  Freeware.
        
        26) Modem
        
             A utility program for modem users.
        
        27) PhoneMan

             A   technique  for  memorizing  phone  and  other   numbers.  
        Freeware.
        
        28) Varitale
        
             A  program  for  multi-path,  multi-author  story   writing.  
        Registration: $15.00.
        
        29) Pinn-Art
        
             This  is  a collection of art work in  extended  ASCII.   It 
        includes pictures and large fonts.  Freeware.
        
        Note that most of the above listed program require MS-DOS 3.0  or 
        higher, but some can be run under DOS 2.1
