Source: Scouting Magazine (UK) November 1990. Scouting is For Him. To him, becoming a Scout is the gateway to untold adventure, a realisation of dreams, ambitions and new horizons. The chance to be self-sufficient, self-reliant, self-confident and have fun. To do the things he always wanted to do but didn't. Because the impetus wasn't there, no-one cared, no-one could be bothered, the equipment wasn't available, no-one gave the lead. It was much too much work and no-one had the time. Being a Scout lets him try, gives him something for which to aim. He may fail but no-one condemns him for failing, they just encourage him to try again until he achieves what he wants to achieve. The scope of interest is wide and the Scout programme caters for that interest whatever it may be. Camping, hi-tech, work in the community, work for the community, badges, awards, responsibility for his own actions and the actions of others. Decision-making and decision-taking and fun! Scouting is for everyone but especially for him. There is so much to which he can look forward, to which he can aspire and there are people there to help him realise his aspirations, at his pace and his time. Scouting is for him.
