Microsoft Windows NT, Beta March 1993 Problem with ET4000 based video cards not working correctly Error: Refresh rate is off and or high res is out of sync. The Microsoft Windows NT product group has identified an interoperability problem with the March Beta release of Windows NT. On systems where an ET4000 Video card is installed, you may experience some anomalies at higher resolutions. Through your efforts in beta testing and incoming reports, we have been made aware of the problem and Microsoft Windows NT test and development groups have made the fix available for our customers encountering the problem today. We apologize for any inconvenience this problem may have caused. Please follow the below instructions carefully to remedy this problem. If you continue to encounter similar problems, please let us know. Thank you for your continued beta testing efforts. __________________________________________________________________________ It is suggested that you configure Windows NT to VGA before you apply a fix that involve new video drivers. If you have an ET4000 video card and are experiencing display problems with your ET4000 based video board then follow these instructions. Please confirm that you have downloaded or received the following three files successfully. ET4000.SYS 30720 5/18/93 4:49:12pm VGA.SYS 26112 5/18/93 4:49:48pm VIDEOPRT.SYS 38912 5/18/93 11:46:36am 1. Rename the old March Beta ET4000 files first. Using the File Manager, locate ET4000.SYS in the Windows NT \SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory. For example, C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. From the File menu, select Rename to rename this file to ET4000.OLD. 2. Repeat step 1 above for VGA.SYS and VIDEOPRT.OLD to rename them to VGA.OLD and VIDEOPRT.OLD. 3. Insert the ET4000 fix floppy disk or locate the proper directory containing the new files. 4. Copy the files to your \SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory. Using the File Manager, click on the corresponding drive icon. Select the three ET4000 fix files from the menu, select File, Copy, To: and type in the appropriate path destination. For example, C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. 5. Exit File Manager. 6. Shutdown Windows NT by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL, Shutdown, OK. You should now be able to use the Windows NT setup applet to configure your Windows NT to display at various resolutions. Please make sure your ET4000 card has enough memory to display the higher resolutions and that your monitor can handle these resolutions. Please upload a bug report to Library 3 of the WINNT Forum if you are still experiencing problems.
