Peter, XT2BW, continues to warm the WARC bands, but will be leaving at the end of January bound for Ghana. Check 12 and 17 meters between 1600 and 1930z. He also works 3530 kHz around 2200z. HZ1AB gets on the top band from 1830 to 1835 kHz on Fridays starting around 0200z. QSL via K8PYD. SPACED OUT? MIR has a new crew comprised of Commander U9MIR, Engineer R3MIR and Doctor U3MIR. The call sign R0MIR is used on packet and the Packet Mail System R0MIR-1. Listen to 145.55 MHz for passes of ''MIR''. G4OJW is the main operator of ST0K in Khartoum, believed to be the only legally licensed club station in the Sudan. The Sudan Amateur Radio Association, SARA, is being established and soon hopes to be able to deliver QSLs to Sudanese amateurs. The address for SARA is c/o Khartoum Airport, Box 73, Khartoum, Sudan. CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC. TL8NG has been heard on the 3789 kHz Net at 2135z, 24935 kHz at 1700z, 18114 kHz at 1709z and 10107 kHz at 1945z. Another spot to try is 21335 kHz at 1445z or as late as 1745z. OGASAWARA. JD1BIE has left Minami Torishima and will become active on Ogasawara. His length of stay is unknown at this time. He has been a regular on the 14226 DX Net and also checks into the 7062 DX Net run by VK stations between 1030 and 1200z. SAINT LUCIA. Scott, N0JCL, will be on from January 28 to February 2. Nob, JF2MBF, starts a one month journey on February 12. He and Yasu, JI1NJC, will operate from Tonga as A35JJ February 12 through 20; T23JJ from Tuvalu February 23 to March 1; T30JJ from Western Kiribati March 2 to 8; and C21/WK3D from Nauru March 9 to 14. Plans include 160 through 10 meter CW, SSB and RTTY, plus some Mode B satellite work. QSL direct or to JR2KDN via the bureau. NEW ZEALAND. Jacky, F2CW, has visited Ron, ZL1AMO, and guest operated ZL1AMO on 7005 kHz at 0518z. CONTEST DATE CORRECTION. To set the story straight, the CQ 160 Meter Contest will be on the weekend of January 28 through 30. The following are some tips for this event. Mike, K4PI, will be signing P49I. Remi, FK8CP, will call for W and VE stations on 1842 kHz, listening between 1846 and 1848 kHz at 0320 and 1300z. P40W will be a multi-single effort by W2GD and K2TW. QSL via N2MM. AH6IO will activate Oahu on both CW and SSB. THIS WEEKEND ON THE RADIO. The ARRL January VHF Sweekstakes runs from 1900z Saturday the 22nd until 0400z Monday the 24th.
