1993 ANNUAL SURNAME LIST AND SOUNDEX CROSS-REFERENCE Also Available: The NQF Cumulative Surname List, 1990-1993 The 1993 list includes all 3,296 surnames found in the 9 issues of The National Queries Forum published last year. The 1990-1993 Cumulative Surname List includes all 11,078 surnames found in the first 36 issues of NQF. As in the index for each issue, these lists include the surnames of the submitters as well as those given in each query. The corresponding issue numbers, not page numbers, are given for every name. We have also created a separate list that arranges all surnames in Soundex order. Follow the directions for coding the name your interested in; for example, RITNER is coded as R356. Under that code, the Cross-Reference lists REDNER, RIDENHOUR , RIDENOUR, RIDNOUR, RITNER, RITTENAUER and ROTNOUR. This system, which is used by the National Archives for referencing census records, will facilitate the location of variant spellings and related names. The Soundex Code Cross-Reference is included with both lists.
