April Hints ----------- For you all who don't want to read the manual or who want to be sure they know everything, here are some important remarks about April. Even if you're an expert user, along the list you probably find some things you did not yet know. - AreaMenu : The list of areas (1st screen) NamesMenu : The list with messages (2nd screen) ShowMsgMenu: A message. Optional with NamesMenu in a splitwindow. - If you want to write a message in an area which doesn't contain any messages, just select that specific area and choose "Write MSG" from the Menu or with the shortcut. - When you press the combination LMB->RMB (left mousebutton & right mousebutton) above an area in the AreaMenu, April will automaticaly jump to a message in the ShowMsgMenu (what message she will jump depends on the flags settings in the AreaMenu configs). Just a doubleclick will get you in the NamesMenu. When the 'skip NamesMenu' option is set this this is visa versa. - With RMB you can scroll through lists. - With ESCAPE you can abort the Import. - The '!' before an area (areamenu) shows that this area contains unreplied messages. In Namesmenu this character is shown before the messages that are also unreplied. - By pressing on the clock (if you have configured April to show a clock) it will show the current date. - When you use ShowNamesMenu is ShowMsg you can adjust the size of the NamesMenu By dragging the splitbar up or down. - If you want to set the flags of a message in NamesMenu, press the combination LMB->RMB. A flags window will then appear. Press RMB or the close gadget to exit. Shift-CR will do the same. - If you have a nodelist directory and you have entered this directory correctly in the General1 Configuration window, you can use the SHIFT-/ combination (='?') and some information about the displayed message will appear (only in ShowMsg) - FromToWindow (which appear when you've written/replied a message): SHIFT-RETURN in the To stringgadget activates the PrivUser match function. SHIFT-RETURN in the origin stringgadget takes another random origin from your origin list. - RMB->LMB will go to a previous menu, just like backspace does. (ShowMsg->NamesMenu->AreaMenu->Exit) - The TAB key: if you're in the AreaMenu and you press this key, April will then jump to the lastread area and lastread message (the last message you read in the messagebase). - Another way to enter the value (string)gadgets in April is by clicking with the RMB on them. With the slider you can adjust the value. April will place the value in the stringgadget. If it's a file/dir string a file/dir-requester will pop up. - The % codes may be used in the Openings,Closings and External menu. - Keypad: ( = Go to AreaMenu ) = Go to NamesMenu / = Go to ShowMsg * = Set flags +/- = Next/previous area Furthermore you may use the 1-9 keys for browsing trough your messagebase. - A "UUDecode message" in the external menu could be like this: 'UUDecode %msgfile' - If you use splitwindow in ShowMsg you can switch keyhandle from upper to lower part with the spacebar. The arrow in the right of the splitbar points to which part is active. You can also drag the splitbar with the mouse. - If you want to go to the first message in your thread, press MMB->LMB in the threadbox and you'll get there. Also in BrowseBox MMB->R/LMB will get you to first/last message - When you are at the end of a subject thread, pressing RMB (or shift-right) will get you in the next subject thread. - Pressing MMB in the ChainBox will get the Complete tree in a window. Pressing LMB on one of the nodes will get to the msg and close the window. RMB has the same effect, except that the treewindow won't close. - Pressing MMB in the from/to/subject box above the msg will let you edit that message. - Pressing LMB on the subject line will show the complete line. In the BadMail area the reason for being a bad msg and which area it came from will show also. - It's easy setting flags with the keyboard. eg ctrl-p protects, ctrl-m marks, etc. - Pressing MMB in the BrowseWindow will popup the BrowseFlags window. - Pressing LMB->RMB on one of the names in NamesMenu will let you edit its flags. - Pressing RMB on string-gadgets in April gets you to the extended string-mode. Does work only on integer and dir/file-strings. - If you want to quit April without saving *any* configs, press ctrl-q - Doing cursor-right in AreaMenu will get you to the area where the cursor is at the moment. Doing cursor-right in NamesMenu will get you in the message where the cursor currently is. - The little box where 'Su', 'ID' or 'TR' is showed is really a button for the treeconfigs. Best is to find a quite large tree, then do treeconfigs, so you can easily change the distance between the nodes. - If you don't have an MMB, you can emulate one in April with the keys ctrl-tab. - Using RMB with Aprils requesters is the same as pressing CR on them. - (shift -) F10 will cycle through areas. - ctrl-a will archive a message.
