                         Greek Christmas Cookies

Ingredients:

1 C. butter or magarine        1 t. cloves
2 C. powdered sugar            1/2 t. nutmeg
1 egg yolk                     2 C. finely ground, un-blanched almonds
2 C. sifted flour              Candied cherries, halved
1 t. cinnamon                  1/8 t. salt

     Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolk and all other
ingredients except cherries. Knead well with hands or spoon. Shape into small

balls with hands dusted with confectioner's sugar. Put on Baking sheet 3 inche
apart. Place half of candied cherry in center of each cookie. Bake at 350

degrees until golden brown about 15 min. Cool on racks. Makes about 40 cookies
