Play Dough
This recipe is a tried and trusted one, that I make all the time.  It isn't
messy, like some recipes.  It is easy to work with and doesn't easily leave a
residue on tables, cookie-cutters, etc.

In a saucepan, mix together 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt, 1 cup water, 1
tablespoon vegetable oil, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar and a few drops of food
coloring.  Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture
forms a ball.  Let cool, knead it a bit to smooth it out, and it's ready to
go.  Store this play dough in plastic bags in the refrigerator.
If you want to make more than one color from a single batch, don't add the
food coloring to the ingredients.  Prepare the dough as directed, let cool,
then divide into portions and knead a few drops of food coloring into each
portion of dough.
