+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ IS THIS AN UNTAMPERED FILE? This ASCII-file version of ShareDebate International was packaged by Applied Foresight, Inc. (AFI hereafter). Every AFI-packaged ASCII version of ShareDebate International is distributed in either an "-AV protected" ZIP file format or a SDN (Shareware Distributors Network) protected SDN file. "AV" is the authenticity verification feature provided to registered PKZIP users, which Applied Foresight, Inc., is. If you are using the MS-DOS PKUNZIP.EXE program written by PKWARE Inc. and do not see the "-AV" message after every file is unzipped AND receive the message "Authentic files Verified! #JAA646 Applied Foresight Inc." when you unzip this file then do not trust it's integrity. If your version of PKUNZIP is not the PKWARE-authored program (for instance, you are running a non-MS-DOS version), then this message may not be displayed. (Note: version 2.04g of PKZIP was used to create this authentication message.) SDN is the major distributor of Shareware and Copyrighted Freeware and users who extract files from an SDN file with the current version of the archive utility ARJ, should see: *** Valid ARJ-SECURITY envelope signature: *** SDN International(sm) SDN#01 R#2417 This file is an SDN International(sm) Author-Direct Distribution. It should be verified for the SDN Security Seal by the FileTest utility available at The SDN Project AuthorLine BBS 203-634-0370. (Note: prior to about May, 1993, SDN used PAK to archive its distributions and its authenticity message differs from the above.) Trust only genuine AFI-packaged archives ... anything else may be just that: ANYTHING ELSE. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ISSN 1054-0695 SHAREDEBATE INTERNATIONAL ========================= Volume 4(1) Spring 1994 Diskette number 14 (BBS Filename: DBATE014) Roleigh H. I had originally planned to focus on the actual legislation of the Clinton Health Act this issue, however as seen in the supplement to issue 12 (dbate013), which contains the full non-graphic text of the Act, it is very long. I still have not finished reading this horrendous legislation. Yes, I know this is the second time I've started out this column with this excuse. Anyway, the consensus of the press seems to be that the original horrible bill has long ago died but we'll probably be forced to accept a horrible second-place alternative this year or next. If only the American people would rise up and tell Washington D.C. to get out of our face and to let the individual 50 states work individually on their problems -- that way competition would thrive in the political marketplace and individual states could learn from others as which approach works best---I favor a laissez faire approach myself with firm support on both the consumer and provider side regarding each side's private contract rights. In other words, let transactions be voluntary but protect those who have had their privately obtained contractual rights violated. But no, we're being forced by the propaganda-fed voting plurality (who voted in Clinton) to put all of our eggs in the federal basket. I hope the WhiteWater scandal diverts Congress enough to postpone Health Care reform until after 1996 when I hope pro-marketplace (not liberal) Republicans regain at least the White House if not the Congress. However, I'm not going to hold my breath. By the way, Dr. Stephen D. Leonard, M.D., F.A.C.S., provides a very interesting analysis of the health care crisis in this issue. This will be a very short intro column this issue; the magazine entries are interesting enough to stand by themselves. I've included some great Libernet postings from the Internet -- don't think that I agree wholeheartedly with each article, but they're definitely interesting enough that we should widely know about them. They sure beat much of what the popular media feeds you! Two well known authors have joined in providing very interesting reprints with this issue -- William Tucker and Steven Schlossstein. See the editor's introduction at the start of each of these author's contribution for more about them. Dan Druck, of the Council on Domestic Relations (CDR), has provided ShareDebate International with complete information on the Colorado Sovereignty Resolution which has passed the Colorado House 51-13 and is scheduled for a vote in the Colorado Senate, April 18. The resolution has been introduced in California by Senator Rogers with 21 Co-Sponsors (out of 40) in the Senate and 41 Co-Sponsors (out of 80) in the Assembly. The CDR has resolution teams forming in more than 28 states. CDR has shifted about 75% of their efforts toward this resolution. They hope to have resolution teams in all 50 states by May 15. Please contact Dan Druck if you wish to help. It's time to stop talking about fixing the problem and start fixing it! CDR's address (mail, email, fax, phone) is given at the end of the file, SOVERNTY.TXT. I know you'll like this issue! ### +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ MAGAZINE CONTENTS Because this issue is quite long, the individual entries are not all collapsed into this file. That way readers on non-MSDOS computers who don't have an ASCII file reader that can read in massively large files can read this issue -- all files are under 50KB apiece. Also all readers can quickly "jump" to the pieces that most interest them. This makes printing out what interests a person most convenient and avoids wasting paper and time. I hope you like this arrangement. LIST OF FILES AND CONTENT DESCRIPTIONS: SURGEON.TXT: (A widely printed viewpoint) The Health Care Crisis -- One Surgeon's Critical View by Stephen D.
