BACKUP OS/2 INI FILES BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH DRIVER INSTALLATION Most IBM literature recommends to backup three critical INI files for OS/2 - CONFIG.SYS, OS2.INI, AND OS2SYS.INI. OS/2 users have encountered problems with certain MBs using the functions of the PTI1s506.ADD driver in 32-bit operation on HPFS partitions. If this problem appears in the system, it appears everytime after shutdown. It would not be an intermittent occurance. We advise backing up your three OS/2 INI files manually or with a shareware utility which is distributed through an OS/2 BBS. This driver has a /W switch which may be used to force 16-bit operation when the Mainboard VL-Bus proves incompatible with the PROMISE driver. Other tips with troubleshooting: Use the /V (verbose) and /W (16-bit) switches for the PTI1s506.ADD driver. Disable the Video Shadow RAM on the MB bios - This is not used by OS/2 operation. Create an OS/2 bootable diskette to access HPFS OS/2 Desktop partitions.
