v-BASE      600 variety sample                                 1994 version

v-BASE is a set of files listing around 3600 varieties of leaves and 2800 
of plants.  It is in both the *.dbf and comma delimited format so you can 
use it with your software.  The first line in the delimited database 
contains the field headings.  The configuration is:

  The useable files on this disc are these.  There are 2 databases: one for 
plants and one for leaves.  They show the names of varieties, growers, and 
price.  Also in this package text files with shipping information located 
in the WELCOME.TXT file.  Varieties available later are in the season in 
the LATER.TXT file.  Violet growers around the country are polled for their 
favorite varieties and these are described in the BEST.TXT file.  This year 
several hundred varieties new to various growers are described in the 
NEW.TXT file.

  Listed on v-BASE are around 16 grower's lists.  If your favorite grower 
isn't participating, please urge them to do so.  I left some information 
from last year on the database.  You might want to contact those growers 
for their latest list.

  I hope you find v-BASE useful for finding growers of African Violets.  I 
have tried my best to get the info entered correctly.  The information is 
pieced together from the various growers' lists.

  The date of the growers last info is in the record ZZ REVISION.  To 
ensure that field headings are accurate, the first two records contain 
increasing numbers from left to right and the growers zip code in a three 
digit format.
