GWHQPRO is what we fell should be Wildcat BBS Softwares Professional display Wctext.dat and now Tctext.dat files. These files have been tested and work well with Wildcat v3.60S and 3.60M and compatibility with other versions of said software is not guaranteed. We have now included several examples on how to install these prompt(s). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Disclaimer - You use these files at your own risk. The creator Lon Vennard and Gamewatch Software HQ BBS (GWHQ) will not be held accountable for any inaccuracies, errors or misprints in this software or it's documentation. In another words, if the files in this archive destroys your computer and or your wife leaves you it won't be considered our fault. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - GWHQPRO - What is GWHQPRO and is it for you? Not everyone will desire a custom set of prompt files. That is just what these files are. In this Archive you will find Wildcats and NOW Tomcat's Wctext and Tctext prompts file. We have included 10 pairs of color schemes for you to choose from. We hope we have touched everyones tastes. You are no longer held to use our generic colors. A Graph below will have the layout of each ASCii file. If any of these are commonly used in your display files then we encourage you to try these prompts. Best of all if you don't like them you can simply erase said file then and go back to what you were using. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Registration - Their is no charge for using these prompts. We do so in the expectation that you will NOT remove the file version number held within the file. IMPORTANT: If you deceide to use these prompts we ask that you stop by our BBS and answer questionnaire 1 so we can keep track of those systems that use this file. It will take you all of 4 minutes to log on and complete the questionnaire. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Support - Yes it is available. If you apprecaite these prompt file(s) but would rather have a different color, we can help. We have created macro's that allow us to quickly change any current color setup. We can quickly and easily do this. Like you, I dont want to sit for hours manually editing, viewing, 706 prompts. If you have any concerns or questions please let us know. You can leave a message on our support BBS or MSI. If you CANNOT get these prompts to work for you I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT IT! I have tested all these prompt files under Wildcat and I dont like to get any messages that either they dont work or I cannot load them right. I have dialed up dozens and systems and helped SysOps all over the country at my expense and quickly got their prompt file(s) working because of minor mistakes during installation. Now if you want help it's time to call me. I'm sorry for this but I do not ask for any money for the hours of work I placed into these files and for the dozens of custom prompt files I have created and uploaded to various systems. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Files in this archive are: README.TXT - This text file. Then call the BBS listed below and download the latest version. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Installation- NEW Installation information: We think installation is very simple however we also think that driving a car is easy yet their are many SysOps out their without Driver's Licenses. First: Create a directory to house this Archive. MD\GWHQPRO is our choice. If you do not know how to create a directory or basic DOS commands refer to you MS-DOS or operating system manual. I know it sounds like I'm treating you like a novice computer user but I could tell you some stories. Next copy this Archive into the directory you just created. Now if PKUNZIP is in your DOS Path and it should be if you run a BBS type PKUNZIP GWHQPR16 and the archive should open up and the files will be emptied into this file directory. If you get a 'Bad Command or Filename' from DOS then most likely you either mistyped it or PKUNZIP is not in your system Path. If it is not then simply copy it from were ever its located to our directory and refer later to your DOS Manual on how to create a Dos Path. Now look at the ASCii description below and deceide which color combination you want to use for either Wildcat or Tomcat or Both. MKWCTEXT.EXE should be located in Wildcats Home Directory which should be in your system Path. Type MKWCTEXT and it should load. Refer to Wildcats Manual on how to use this program for other unrelated topics. Load the ASCii file you want to use as your prompt file. Note that the MKWCTEXW will say 'invalid prompt file'. This is because it does not match your orgional Wctext.dat file. Now add any clever remarks into the prompt file like references to any particular utility you may use with Wildcat. Now save the ASCii file as WC1.Dat file or whichever number you chose in ASCii format. Example, if you selected WC2.ASC then save it as WC2.DAT. Now exit MKWCTEXT and look to see if the .dat file is actually their. The orgional Ascii files are 29,258 bytes long and in .Dat format should be 91,074 byes long. 1 Byte off can make a difference! Although I have never experienced this. If the compiled .Dat size is correct them you ready to copy it over to Wildcats Home Directory. Remove your orgional Wctext.dat from Wildcats Home Directory and copy your New WC#.Dat file into their by using this command. Copy WC#.Dat C:\WC30\WCTEXT.DAT and press Enter. The file will be copied over to Wildcats home as the New WCTEXT.DAT. You now ready to roll. Start up Wildcat and make sure your the first one on to look around. Try all the prompts you can think of. Searches, Files, Doors, etc. You perform the same function with the Tomcat.ASCii files. We us these same prompt files (all of them) every daily without any problems and you shouldnt have any either! New to v1.6 is our own "Smart Batch" files which allow you to swap your WCTEXT.DAT files in and out of Wildcat as often as you like. You may need to edit these Batch files incase any of the Drive or Directory commands are different on your system. Example many of you use Drive D: instead of C: and so on. You will need to compile all the Wc#.Asc or TC#.Asc files you wish to use ONE AT A TIME. Where as if your working from the directory GWHQPRO you can only load, edit and save 1 Ascii file at a time and you MUST bring MKWCTEXT back down and start again for each ASCii file. MKWCTEXT cannot handle 2 errors at once were as when edited prompt files are loaded many times you'll get an 'invalid prompt file' but be allowed to continued for this prompt file in memory only. It will not allow you to Load, edit, save and load another custom Ascii file. Simply do 1 at a time and Escape. Refer to Wildcats Manual if you do not understand how to create events to run batch files. All the batch files you want to use should be located in Wildcats Home Directory. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Future Updates- We have tested these files for weeks over and over without any problems and unless someone wants something different we cannot forsee any updates in the near future. Next update will be for Wildcat 4.0, we will have their WCTEXT and TOMCAT .dat files early enough to release updated versions of GWHQPRO! We are considering and have had a few suggestions for something we would call "Smart Prompts" which are similar to viewing the prompts with the Menu level set to Regular or Expert. Your prompts would appear in this abbreviated fashion as well. If we get more requests for these we shall release them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- -Final Note- If you truly want to see these prompts in action even before you use them then give the BBS below a call. You will see some things not even yet dreamed up by the Wildcat HQ SysOps themselves. Oh and you guys are invited to call as well. You may get an idea or two. We apologize you the quick version updates But we have be flooded with ideas and requests and simply a rewrite on this read.me file was in order to answer all the same questions left to us on MSI and here at GWHQ. *Remember if you cannot get these prompts to work for you I WANT TO KNOW about it because their really know reson they wont work.
