MSI is establishing echo conferences on a trial basis for support of our products. Four conferences from the MSI HQ BBS will be made available for echoing using the popular .QWK format. The conferences will be: MSI HQ WILDCAT! (to discuss WC!, Tomcat!/TNet and other utils) MSI HQ QMODEM (to discuss Qmodem and QM/OLX related issues) MSI HQ OLX/SLMR (to discuss SLMR and OLX) MSI HQ Off-Topic (for chit-chat) Other conferences carried by the MSI HQ BBS are not available for duplication on other systems. This project will continue as long as it is successful and remains a positive aspect of our communication with users, registered and otherwise. We expect the message content to be informative and polite, although we encourage constructive criticism. We want to avoid messages that contain general personal attacks on individuals or others participating in the echo. Profanity and vulgarity have no place in any public forum. The best way for this project to become a positive permanent addition to our support program is to have its activity moderated and controlled through the efforts of the participants. MSI has no desire to become involved in heavy-handed moderation of unacceptible message traffic, and will count on the individual sysops who are moving the mail to do so when it is brought to their attention. ------- These conferences are being sent by MSI to our distributors and several dealers worldwide. If you are outside the US in a location where we have a distributor carrying the conferences, you should obtain the conferences from the appropriate distributor rather than from us: Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland) PC SECURITY BBS - +47 (02) 58 33 58 United Kingdom TELESYSTEMS BBS - +44 494 891903 France MAXOTEX - +33 (1) 45 34 64 30 Australia Barcastle Enterprises - +61 (0) 3 720 5234 ----- In order to make this project a successful support vehicle, we will try to get by with as few rules as possible. Please see also the file ECHORULE.TXT for information on topicality and deportment within the conferences themselves. The following rules apply to system operators wishing to participate in this echo. 1. The echo conferences can be picked up by any registered WILDCAT! sysop with access to the MSI HQ BBS, whose application is submitted properly and approved by MSI staff. An application form is included in this information packet. 2. The conferences must be imported onto your BBS with TNET or other QWK compatible network mail software, and made available to callers. Do NOT open and read your net status MUSTANG.QWK packets with an offline reader. Do NOT read and reply to MSI SupportNET messages while logged in to MSI HQ BBS. All messages originating from your BBS *MUST* have a proper TNET origin line showing the name and location of your BBS. 3. The sysop will be responsible for ensuring that callers are aware of, and abide by the regulations in ECHOCONF.TXT. 4. It is assumed that sysops will be monitoring these conferences regularly for configuration problems, alias names, off-topic posts, excess quoting, profanity and other infractions of the rules. Where necessary, we will inform the sysop of a problem via private message. Recurrent or unresolved problems will result in loss of echomail access. You are responsible for every message that leaves your BBS. These conferences are being echoed using TOMCAT at MSI HQ! and TNET (or compatible software for those running other BBS software than WILDCAT!). For those not familiar with QWKmail-style echo conferences, we refer you to the documentation. You can find the documentation for Tomcat and TNet in one of the following places, depending on when you purchased Wildcat! version 3. If you got it between August 1991 and January, 1992, the programs and documentation are on one of the bonus disks in an ASCII file. If you got Wildcat after January 1992, but before March or April, the Tomcat and TNet programs are on one of the Wildcat disks, along with documentation in an ASCII file. If you bought Wildcat after the Spring of 1992, the complete Tomcat and Tnet docs form Chapter 10 of the Wildcat manual, which was reprinted at that time. Documentation is also contained in the file TC-TN302.ZIP, which is available for download from MSI HQ! BBS, and in TCDOCS.ZIP, also available from the HQ! BBS. If you have any questions, please leave them in a private message to Gwen Barnes.
