Continued use requires that you register VoiceChat(C) with the author. Your sessions in VoiceChat(C) will be limited to 5 minutes in the un-registered release. Registration will allow you to remain in a VoiceChat will no time restrictions. (PLEASE USE THE VCHAT10.REG FORM INCLUDED WITH YOUR PAYMENT) I am requesting $25.00 for the REGISTRATION of this program. Please send your check or money order to: Jeffrey A. REGISTRATION entitles you all to all future releases and allows unlimited access to the Russell Computer Services BBS. [[[ WHY REGISTER ? ]]] There is a internal time limit in the un-registered release. You must exit the program and return to your system BEFORE this time runs out, or you WILL lose the connection! The time limit is 5 minutes, and a counter on the bottom of screen will give display the time remaining. Registration will elimanate this time limit, and enable all other future enhancements. The ability of me to offer support and continue to enhance this program is determined by your support! And I think you might sleep a little better at night... [[[ HOW DOES IT WORK ]]] This program will terminate a data connection, and re-establish it in an almost totally automated way! When callers request to enter a VoiceChat(C), they will be prompted to pick up their phone. You will then be prompted to pickup your phone. The program will then terminate the data connection. After you have completed your VoiceChat, you will instruct the caller to type ATA, press their ENTER key and hang up their phone. When you hear their modem screaming at yours, you will instruct VoiceChat to answer. VoiceChat will then go thru the touchy process of re-determining baud rates, error correction, etc... and stabilize the connection. When all the necessary, and fully automatic, stuff is completed... They are back! Anyone familiar with communications, is well aware this is not a simple task. But with VoiceChat - this is a HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL, STRAIGHT FORWARD, and USER FRIENDLY process. Please consider registering VoiceChat, as this will allow me to continue to enhance and support VoiceChat(C). [[[ GETTING STARTED ]]] I have tried to make the installation of this program as fast and as painless as possible. The first thing you will need to do is to unzip the archive file into a directory. After you have all the distribution files in that directory, run VCSETUP. This is an included utility to edit the VC.CFG file. Use the TAB key to move between the fields, and when you have filled in all the necessary fields press ENTER. You will then have the option to save the changes. There is a definition of the file structure within the VC.CFG itself for those needing that information. The are two command line option to the VoiceChat(C) program: /L will force local operation. Keyboard inactivity is ignored if you run with this switch. Example > VC /L /NOANSI will disable color on local AND REMOTE screens. This might be required if your system does not support color. [[[ BATCH FILE CREATION ]]] Some Wildcat! example batch files to call VoiceChat: CD \WC30\DOORS\VCHAT (change to directory containing VC.EXE) VC C:\WC30\WCWORK\NODE1\DOOR.SYS (location of the door.sys file) For Wildcat! Multi-Node operation, I use the ENVIRONMENT settings: CD \WC30\DOORS\VCHAT (change to directory containing VC.EXE) VC C:\WC30\WCWORK\NODE%WCNODEID%\DOOR.SYS (location of the door.sys file) To Force B&W display on local and REMOTE screens: CD \WC30\DOORS\VCHAT (change to directory containing VC.EXE) VC C:\WC30\WCWORK\NODE1\DOOR.SYS /NOANSI (/NOANSI MUST be last entry.) [[[ TIPS ]]] The values that you use (if any) to restrict access based on the time of day MUST be in military, 24 hour time. The FLOW CONTROL method much be matched up to your specific hardware. Most HI-SPEED modems will support RTS/CTS flow control, I would recommend that you refer to your modem owners manual to be sure the best method to select. The Modem ANSWER command is ATD on almost all has compatible modems. I would suggest it use. If you experience problems, I have successfully used the ATO command also. It is not as reliable in most instances, so if ATD works... LEAVE IT. If you experience problems here, I would first suggest that you READ your modems owners manual. If you cannot resolve the problem contact the Support BBS, I will provide limited support for NON-REGISTERED users, and FULL support for REGISTERED users. The INITIALIZATION strings should be edited to match those used by your BBS software. If your modem supports NRAM, ATZ will probably do. [[[ OPERATION - CALLER MENU ]]] When callers enter VoiceChat(C), they will see a short Copyright announcement, and then be at the Main Menu. The caller information will be on the bottom of the local screen. There is a SYSOP MENU available to the LOCAL screen by pressing the HOME key or the combination of ALT and H keys at the same time. [H]elp On Using VoiceChat(C) This will display the file CALLHELP. I have included this file, but it may be edited to suit. There are two types of this file: ANS for color, and ASC for non-color. [P]age SysOp This will sound an alarm to notify the SysOp. This will sound for about 30 seconds. If the SysOp fails to respond, the caller is sent a message stating that, then the caller is returned to the BBS. [I]nformation On VoiceChat(C) This will send the file CREDITS to the caller. This is compiled within the un-registered release. It is external, and can be edited with registered release. There are two types of this file: ANS for color, and ASC for non-color. [E]xit To BBS This will return the caller the BBS. There is a slight delay in this release for the registration request screens. After registration there are NO delays. [[[ SYSOP MENU ]]] [F1] - ALLOW CALLER TO INITIATE VoiceChat(C). This is the method that I prefer, it will display the file CALLER.??? and prompt them 'Y' or 'N'. If they respond 'Y' they will be prompted to pick up their phone. You will receive the same prompt, and will be updated on the progress of this process. There are two types of the CALLER.??? file: ANS for color, and ASC for non-color. [F2] ALLOW SYSOP TO INITIATE VoiceChat(C). This WILL NOT prompt ANYBODY! The process is the same as [F1], with all prompts removed, as well as the display file. This method can be nice for callers familiar to the operation of VoiceChat(C) and saves some time. You and the caller will receive only one message, and that is to pick up the phone. You will be updated on the screen as to the progress of this process. [F3] INITIALIZE MODEM. This will send the strings that YOU have entered in your VC.CFG file to your modem. This function is not available if a caller is on-line. [F4] RE-ESTABLISH DATA CONNECTION. This is will reconnect the caller, establish the connection speed, and stabilize the connection. It is all automated, so there is no other action required of the SysOp. You MUST wait until the caller issues the ATA command from their end to send this! If it is sent prior to the callers ATA command, it is VERY likely that the connection will be lost. You will be instructed by VoiceChat when to hang up your phone. [F6] Chat This is a normal chat routine, it is available at anytime that the caller is connected. [F10] Quit This will immediately terminate the program and return to the BBS. [ALT-D] DOS Shell This will allow you to access the command prompt, and send a message to the caller that they are to wait on-line. Type 'EXIT' to return to VoiceChat(C). [[[ FILES IN ARCHIVE ]]]] README.TXT - This document. VC.EXE - The executable program for VoiceChat(C). VC.CFG - Configuration file, created/edited with VCSETUP.EXE. VCSETUP.EXE - Included utility to create/edit VC.CFG file. All display files use the extension .ANS for color, .ASC for B&W: CREDITS.??? - This is the first file displayed to caller, and also when [I]nformation is requested from the Main Menu. This file is compiled into the NON-REGISTERED release, and is therefore cannot be edited. MAINMENU.??? - This is the second file that is displayed to caller. It contains the available options to the caller. CALLER.??? - This is the file sent to the caller when you chose to allow caller to initiate the VoiceChat(C). CALLHELP.??? - This is the file sent to caller when they select [H]elp from the Main Menu.
