README file for WinAto Version 1.4a     3/27/92


Thank you for trying WinAto.  This is a maintenance update of WinAto Version 1.4.  You may copy this release on top of a previous release if WinAto is in it's own directory.  If WinAto is in the windows or autosig directory, copy only the winato.exe and winato.hlp file to that directory.

Installation instructions are in the WINATO.WRI file as is the list of changes incorporated in this update.  That file may be viewed or printed using the MS Write program included with Windows 3.0 or with Word for Windows using the conversion from Write format.  Please address any questions you have about WinAto to Ray Saunders 72740,764 in section 1, Autosig, of the IBMCOM forum, or, if private, by Compuserve Mail.

Registration information and fee information is contained in the WINATO.WRI document.  There is also an ORDER.TXT file which may be used to register the program.

If you experience difficulty when you attempt to go on-line with ATO, it is probably because the General setup parameters and/or the pifs associated with the execution of ATO are not correct.  The simplest way to make it work is to follow these steps:

1.  Place the WinAto files in a winato directory on any drive.

2.  Copy the pif files, ato_f.pif and ato_w.pif, to the autosig/ato directory.

3.  Execute WinAto.  A message will display indicating that the General Setup must be executed.  Select OK.

4.  The General Setup dialog box will display.  Enter the directory path to your autosig directory, i.e, C:\ATO.  DO NOT INCLUDE THE EXE FILE NAME.  Then select OK.

5.  The WinAto main window will display.  Execute help and read the procedure sections for setting up WinAto and complete any required setup.

WinAto is not free software.  It is offered, as shareware, to give you the opportunity to try the program for 21 days before you are obliged to register it.  During the 21 day period, WinAto will not constantly harass you with nag, restricting it's comments to only a reminder, on exit, of the number of days remaining in the trial period.  After that time the reminders will increase proportional to the time of use.  The use of WinAto and ATO will certainly save you many dollars over the conventional on-line use of CompuServe, including the use of CIM.  I hope you will share some of that saved revenue by registering WinAto to enable my continued support of the program.  If you continue to use the program, disregarding the nag and the fact that use of the program after 21 days without registering is in violation of copyright laws, I hope that you will at least pass the release file along and tell others how outstanding it is.  If, for some reason, like vacation, business trip, or otherwise, you need more time to evaluate WinAto, please contact me by CIS mail, and I would be very happy to give you a temporary registration to extend the 21 day trial period.

Last minute release notes:

There have been some instances where the autopasses have hung up when they are run in a window.  Changing the priorities in the ato_w.pif to increase the size of the timeslice given to ATO seems to alleviate that problem.  It is also better to keep the "Detect Idle Time" option turned off.  If ATO sometimes hangs when it is uploading a message, try changing the edit mode from EDIT to LINEDIT in the forum where the problem is occurring.
