Down Time 7Down Time is the length of time, in minutes, the software will utilize UPS battery time before having users log off the file server and beginning procedural shutdown. It is important to choose a Down Time that will give users enough time to log off the system, but not exhaust the UPS battery supply. Backup times will vary depending on size of the size of the UPS and the power requirements of the file server. Default setting: 5 minutesGrace Period üGrace Period is the time after the server down message is broadcast and before the softwre turns the UPS off. The amount of time necessary for the DOWN command to complete execution varies with the number of users and other VAPs and NLMs on the system. It is important that the UPS not be turned off before the DOWN command has completed, other- wise data could be corrupted. Default setting: 20 secondsInstallable Messages nWarning messages in are user defined and will be logged into the Novell system error log file. The software will put the first 5 characters of the server name if a %s is placed anywhere in the line of the followingmessages: Power Fail, Battery Low, Power Restored, Down The software will put the second or minute count in if a %d placed anywhere in the following: Power Fail, Batter LowLogin Help @In order to DOWN the server the software requires supervisorand console rights. It is recommended that the login name and password be unique to the system and should be used exclusively by the UPS monitoring software. Default: SUPERVISORLow Battery „Low Battery is the length of time, in seconds, the softwarewill wait when low battery is detected before "downing" the server. The Low Battery message is triggered when two minutes of battery power exists and there is a commercial power failure. Default setting: 30 secondsMain Menu On line context sensitive help is available on all screens by pressing the F1 key. After you have selected the option of your choice, press the F1 key and a detailed explanation of the option will be shown on the screen. Pressing the F1 key again will give you the function key assignments. Use the ESC key to return to previous screens.Message Time FMessage Interval is the time, in minutes, between power failure messages. Entering a value of zero will cause the sofware not to repeat power failure messages. The one minute message will always be broadcast. Default setting: 1 minutePassword Help The software requires a unique password for the login name (See Login Name). The login name requires SUPERVISOR and console rights. It is recommended that a unique name and password be established, however the real SUPERVISOR name and password maybe used.Serial Port KYou may modify the serial port that the software will use tocommunicate with the UPS with this option. Use the arrow keys to select the port that is to be used. Once the port is chosen, you will be prompted to enter the Port Address as a hexidecimal number. The default address for port 1 and 2 are set to standard IBM addresses. If you are using other hardware, you will need to review your hardware manual for the correct port address. Default setting: COM1 with 03f8h port address.Wait Time ÀWait Time is the length of time, in seconds, the software will wait, when power failure is detected before signaling users that a power failure has occurred. All momentary power disruptions detected, regardless of length, will be displayed to the console and logged into the Novell system error log file. Default setting: 10 seconds
