The 4MMIBM.SYS driver is provided to support IBM 2.0Gb 4mm Tape Drive Option. While support for this drive is also provided with the standard 4MMDAT.SYS driver, the IBM tape drive will not be able to read tapes written by other (non-IBM) 4mm DAT tape drives. The reverse is also true, tapes written by the IBM tape drive, using the 4MMDAT.SYS driver, will not be able to be read by other (non-IBM tape drives). Using this driver on the IBM tape drive will remove the majority of those problems. Any tape drive that is hardware compatible with the IBM tape drive will be able to read a tape created with the IBM tape drive providing the IBM tape drive is using the 4MMIBM.SYS driver. The reverse is also true. If a tape is created with the IBM tape drive (using the 4MMIBM.SYS driver), any tape drive that is hardware compatible with the IBM tape drive will be able to read that tape.
