TimeTrak v2.0 TimeTrak is a small time tracking program that maintains a log of time and charges accumulated for a particular client. A log entry contains the date of the activity, the client ID, the number of hours, a short description of the activity and an extension of the hours times the rate for that client. The entries into the client file contain the client ID, name, address, city, state, ZIP and rate per hour for the client. Any entry can be recalled and edited and new entries into the client file can be added on the fly when updating the log. The number of entries in both the client file and the log file are limited only by disk space. The program and data files are small enough to be kept on a 3.5 inch floppy disk that is ideal for notebook computers. Installing TimeTrak To install the program on your hard disk simply make a directory and copy the file TIMETRAK.EXE to that directory. A suggestion would be to use the directory name \TIMETRAK. To run the program type timetrak and hit the enter key. All the necessary data files will be created the first time TimeTrak is run. When you run the program for the first time you will be presented with a form that will add the first client to the client file. Then you will be presented with a form that will add the first activity to the log file. Using TimeTrak Every time you start TimeTrak the monthly log will be listed on you screen. This is the main working screen for the program and lists only the entries into the log for the current month. A new entry can be made by hitting the INSert key. A form will be shown were you will enter the date first. The next field is the client ID field. If you know the ID for a particular client simply enter that ID. If not, enter any invalid entry into the field and you will be presented with the list of clients. Highlight the client name by scrolling through the list with the up and down arrow keys. When the appropriate client is highlighted hit the enter key and the field will be filled in. Next enter the hours and the clinet rate will be displayed and the amount will be calculated. The last item is to fill in a short description of the activity and when you are finished hit the ENTER key and the log entry is completed and will now be included on the monthly listing. Important keys used in TimeTrak are the UP and DN arrow keys which will scroll any listing on the screen. The ENTER will always select the item on the scrolling list. Log entries may be edited by highlighting them and then hitting the ENTER key. In both the client list and the log list the INSert key will add a record to the file. Likewise the DELete key will delete the highlighted record. All of the hot keys used in TimeTrak are are listed at the bottom of the appropriate listing screen. Listings In addition to the month to date listing you can produce a listing for all clients within a date to date time period as well as a listing for one client between a date to date time period. While you are on the monthly screen the F3 hot key will produce a menu that will provide selections for doing the listings mentioned above as well as one for updating the client list. The date ranges mentioned above will include the starting and ending dates i.e. listings will be included for both the start date and end date. A printed copy of any of the three listings may be produced by hitting the F4 key while the listing is on the screen. Rebuilding Keys If you need to rebuild the keys for any of the data files simply delete those key files. These files are the ones with the extension .K??. After deleting these key files those files will be rebuilt the next time you run the program. DO NOT delete the files with the .DAT extension they are your data files and if you delete them loss of data will be the result. Also the files with the .DAT extension are the ones that need to be backed up in order to keep your data safe. Registration In the ABOUT screen you will notice that the registration fee for TimeTrak is $15.00. If you find the program useful and continue to use it please register by sending your name and address along with $15.00 to Lex Shuler at PO Box 1011, Salem, IL 62881. This is a program that is administered by local law enforcement people throughout the country to keep kids off drugs. The program may be copied freely as long as it is accompanied by this README.TXT file. Thank You... LEX
