Reboot the system by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL or power the system off, then on. 2. Boot from the Windows NT CD-ROM Setup Boot Disk or floppy Setup Disk #1 to restart Windows NT Setup. 3. Select Express or Custom Setup. 4. If you selected Custom Setup, select Standard VGA from the list in the Display line of the Software Components dialog and press enter to continue the installation. 5. Windows NT will be installed with the VGA.SYS driver. Complete the installation of Windows NT and change the video driver after Windows NT has been installed beginning with Step 1 in Section C. Section B If you have successfully installed Windows NT and later attempted to install the S3 driver provided in the Windows NT March release which may have resulted in a blank screen on reboot, please read the instructions below to resolve this behavior. 1. Boot MS-DOS or an alternate operating system. 2. Locate S3.DLL on the hard drive in the Windows NT system path. For example, CD \WIN31\SYSTEM32. At the command line, type, RENAME S3.DLL S3DLL.OLD. 3. Locate S3.SYS on the hard drive in the Windows NT system path. For example, CD \WIN31\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS and type, RENAME S3.SYS S3SYS.OLD. 4. Windows NT will now use the VGA.SYS driver. Reboot the system and select Windows NT from the Boot Loader to complete the installation of the updated S3 driver beginning with Step 1 in Section C below. Section C If you have installed Windows NT utilizing the S3 chipset and are experiencing screen flicker and other video related problems, please follow these steps to replace the affected files: 1. Logon to Windows NT as Administrator or with administrator privileges. 2. In the Main Program Group, select Windows NT Setup. 3. From the Options menu, select Change System Settings. 4. Insert the patch disk in the floppy drive of your computer. 5. When the Change System Settings dialog appears, click on Display settings and choose the appropriate S3 resolution entry and press enter. 6. If you were previously using the failing S3 driver, you will be prompted by a dialog box asking if you wish to use the current driver or a new one. Select new. 7. In the Insert Diskette dialog, type the floppy drive letter where the patch diskette is located and choose OK. 8. When the files have been copied, exit the dialog and Program Manager and Shutdown from Windows NT by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL, and select Shutdown, then OK. You may now log back on and proceed as normal.
