=========================================================================== BBS: The Abacus * HST/DS * Potterville, MI Date: 05-01-93 (15:34) Number: 57 From: MODERATOR Refer#: NONE To: ALL Recvd: NO Subj: C Echo Rules Conf: (36) C Language --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last revision: May 1, 1993 ===================== 1) The C_ECHO is an internationally distributed FidoNet echo for discussion of the C programming language largely related topics. The first criteria for messages entered here should be: a) Is this message about C programming? b) Is this message of general interest to the echo? The following is a list of backbone echos available for topics related to C, and I suggest that pure discussions of these topics be taken to the appropriate echo: C_PLUSPLUS C++ discussion OS2PROG OS/2 programming ECPROG General programming CXL TCXL/CXL author support WINDOWS.PROG programming problems specific to the Windows environment 80XXX Intel assembly language programming DR_DEBUG General computer and programming problem discussion 2) Despite messages carrying a single recipient's name, all messages posted here are available for all to read. Do not hesitate to answer a message to someone else if you think you have something worthwhile to say. By the same token, don't be offended if several people comment on your post to a single individual. This is a public forum. 3) Do not respond to off-topic messages in the echo. If you must respond, send it netmail. If something in the echo irrates you, send me a message via netmail. LEAVE MODERATING TO THE MODERATOR. 4) "Thank you" and "no content" messages waste echo bandwidth and are not usually of interest to the echo. Please refrain from them. Similar on-topic comments to several respondents should usually be done with a single message or via netmail. 5) NO FLAMING - Inflammatory messages are not permitted here. If you feel you have been insulted in some way, there are three options: 1) Complain to the person via netmail. 2) Bring the matter to the notice of the moderator by netmail 3) Ignore it. 6) EXCESSIVELY ANNOYING BEHAVIOR - "Excessively annoying" behaviour is forbidden. As moderator, this makes it a judgement call for me. In general, if a message or thread annoys a significant number of participant of this echo, it is excessively annoying. If you see something that you feel is annoying behavior, feel free to contact me via one of the methods listed below. 7) The English language is the official human language of this echo. 8) All messages should comply with the FidoNet message requirements. Origin lines should be no longer than 79 characters. Messages should not contain hi-bit characters with the exception of soft CR's ( '\x8D' ). Due to this echo going to multiple zones, please include the zone number in your origin line. 9) When replying to a message, it is preferable that you quote some of the original message so people will know what you are talking about. However, please try to quote just enough to get the point across. DO NOT quote the seen=bys, or the origin and tear lines unaltered, as this may confuse badly behaved mail processors. 10) Code posted in the echo should be free from copyright restrictions. It is preferable that code come with a public domain notice, but copyrighted code with a license for unrestricted use in personal and commercial applications will be allowed. An example public domain notice: /* Gamma Ray Detection Routine - written by: E. Fermi */ /* Released to the Public Domain 1992 */ An example copyright notice with license: /* Copyright 1987-1989 by Robert B. Stout dba MicroFirm */ /* */ /* This code may be used freely in any program for any */ /* application, personal or commercial. */ 11) Advertisements for job openings are banned from the C echo. The issue of rules hopefully should not come into play that often. I thank you all for your cooperation. Comments and suggestions regarding the rules of this conference are welcome.
