VSIGN.1.0 is released to the public due to the following reasons: (1) Many users added the anti-virus Commands in their Autoexec.bat so when the machine is booted, it automatically scans the entire hard disk for signs of Viruses. However, I found it is very time consuming. I personally don't have much patience, so I use the VSIGN just for quick information if my Command.com has changed in size or not. (2) Almost all known viruses including the most popular viruses: STONED, FLIP, MICHELANGELO... can change the size of the Command.com. VSIGN will do just that: Warn the user of changes in Command.com. If the Command.com has been changed in size, it is one of the early signs to warn the user that there's a possible Virus residing on the hard disk. So further "scan" and "clean" by using the anti-viruses program maybe carried out. (3) Most anti-virus programs need to be updated constantly to add new viruses signature-definitions. With more than 50+ new viruses each month, no one can catch up and win the race completely. Fortunately, all anti- viral products are doing their best to catch up and to beat the viruses whenever a new virus has been found. What about the end user ? Most PC users either don't have any anti-virus scan program or, have not updated their viruses-definition file for a long time... What is the immediate solution then ? The answar is: Check the size of the Command.com ! VSIGN can do just that ! (4) Although VSIGN cannot scan or clean your infected files, it is useful to warn you that the Command.com maybe changed due to possible viruses on the hard disk.
