Installation Notes, "Download Version" ADIAL2.ZIP. ----------------------------------------------- You must provide the VBRUN200.DLL file and copy this to your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory prior to running the AutoDial installation program. VBRUN200.DLL can be obtained from Compuserve as VBRUN2.ZIP in ZNT:TIPS Lib 10. If you do not already have a copy of VBRUN200.DLL you can get one from Compuserve. VBRUN200.DLL can be obtained from Compuserve as VBRUN2.ZIP in the ZNT:TIPS Lib 10. * UNZIP all files to a temporary directory on your hard disk. * Copy VBRUN200.DLL to the your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. * From the Windows Program Manager, select File, Run. * Type the path to the AutoDial setup program. Installation Requirements ------------------------- AutoDial v2 requires Microsoft Windows v3.1, a 1200 bps or higher Hayes or Hayes compatible modem, and roughly 600K of free disk space. AutoDial uses tone dialing only. Installation Notes ------------------ AutoDial can be installed from floppy diskette or from your hard disk drive. To install from floppy insert the AutoDial diskette in your floppy drive and type A:\SETUP where A is the letter of your floppy drive. To install from hard disk, copy all files from the AutoDial install diskette to a temporary directory on your hard drive. From the Windows Program Manager, select File, Run. Then type the path to the AutoDial setup program. For example, if you copied the AutoDial files to C:\TEMP, type C:\TEMP\SETUP after selecting File, Run from the Windows Program Manager. If you downloaded the ZIP version of AutoDial, UNZIP all files to a temporary directory on your hard disk and then proceed with the hard disk installation instructions listed above. If you are using the MS Windows PROGMAN shell, the AutoDial installation program will create an AutoDial group and icon. If not, you must manually setup the icon for AutoDial. To do this select File, New, Program Group, OK from the Windows Program Manager. Enter "AutoDial v2" in the Description field and select OK. Select File, New, Program Item, OK from the Windows Program Manager. Enter "AutoDial v2", the path to autodial.exe, and path to AutoDial install directory in the description, command line, and working directory fields. Select OK. The AutoDial installation program copies the following files to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory: VBRUN200.DLL (diskette version only) MSCOMM.VBX THREED.VBX If you reinstall Windows to a new drive or directory, or if you migrate AutoDial to a new PC be sure to copy these files to the new \WINDOWS\SYSTEM sub directory or reinstall AutoDial. The AutoDial v2 installation program will migrate an existing PHONE.DAT file from AutoDial v1.0. Program Notes ------------- To use help, select the HELP button or simply press the F1 key. Be sure that your modem is turned on prior to running AutoDial so that AutoDial can properly initialize your modem. The modem is initialized at time of startup. If initialization fails, you will be prompted with an error when you start AutoDial. If this happens, check your modem connection. AutoDial v2 allows modem initialization changes while in the program. Select the Config button from the main screen. AutoDial can be configured to use either COM1 or COM2. AutoDial initializes your modem with the speaker turned off. This is to prevent feedback when dialing a telephone number with your phone off hook. If you wish to change the initialization string, select the CONFIG button from the AutoDial main screen. Change M to M2 to set the modem speaker on. Select SEND and then OK. Save changes when quitting AutoDial for the change to take effect. Due to the timing differences in local telco switches the following may occur. If the Dial Beeper function of AutoDial results in a partial number send (sends part of your phone number) or does not result in a beep at all you must tune the S8 modem initialization parameter. Increase this setting if AutoDial dials the beeper number and then issues the send number (your phone number) before the beeper service picks up. Decrease the S8 parameter if AutoDial dials the beeper number and waits too long to issue the send number. You can detect this by turning the modem speaker on (change M to M2) in the initialization string. To change to modem initialization string go to the main menu and: * select Config, Change (or Select the Config Button) * place cursor in the Modem Initialziation field and change the desired parameters * select Send to test the changes * select OK and answer yes when exiting AutoDial at the Save Changes prompt. AutoDial will use the new modem initialization string automatically on startup. If your phone system requires a phone number prefix to access numbers outside of your building, be sure to configure AutoDial properly. To configure a phone prefix number select the Config button, highlight the Phone Prefix field and enter the desired number. To Dial a phone number, highlight the desired entry and select "Dial Phone". You will be prompted to continue. Pick up your phone and select "OK". You will hear the phone begin to dial. AutoDial will dial the number, wait several seconds, and then send a hangup command to the modem. As long as you have the phone off hook the call will continue to be processed. To Dial a beeper number, highlight the desired entry and select "Dial Beeper". When prompted, select OK. AutoDial will proceed with the call. You will be notified of the following conditions: BUSY, NO DIALTONE, NO ANSWER, ERROR. Up to 63K (storage) worth of entries is permitted. For example, if each entry averages 50 characters, then 1290 entries can be achieved. Allow 6 to 10 control characters per entry. *** Note: Entry data is stored in the file PHONE.DAT. Configuration data is stored in AUTODIAL.INI. To migrate the PHONE.DAT file from AutoDial v1.0 simply copy the file to the AutoDial v2 directory or install AutoDial v2 to your AutoDial v1 subdirectory. For example: copy c:\autodial\phone.dat c:\adial2 Changes from AutoDial v1.0 -------------------------- Added ability to change modem initialization string and to send the string to the modem during AutoDial operation. Added a search facility called FIND where any entry text can be searched. For example, a phone number, beeper number, or part of a name or number can be searched for using FIND. Included the Hayes AT Modem command set (2400) in the AutoDial online help. All help is context sensitive. For example, place the cursor in the modem init field and press F1 to jump to the AT Modem command set online. Removed the 500 entry limit. The number of entries is limited to 63K of storage. For example, if entries average 50 chars at total of 1290 entries is possible. Allow for 6 to 10 control characters per entry. Added support for 800 beeper services that require a PIN number. Fixed problem where AutoDial would hog the processor during dial. This gave the impression that the PC was hung until dial was completed. Fixed problem where false "PROBLEM DETECTED" and "BUSY" messages were being displayed prior to call completion.
