[IDMAGUP]Magnify and Reduce Altering the Magnification To increase the magnification: Click on the MAGNIFY button. (or press and and on the numeric keypad.) The magnification will increase by 2x. Successive clicks on the MAGNIFY button will increase the magnification in steps of 2x, up to 8x magnification. (i.e. 2x, 4x, 6x and 8x magnifications.) To decrease the magnification: Click on the REDUCE button (or press and and on the numeric keypad.) The magnification will decrease by 2x. [] Alternatively, you can switch directly to the magnification of your choice by pressing one of the following hot keys: and and for normal size and and for 2x magnification and and for 4x magnification and and for 6x magnification and and for 8x magnification [IDOVERVIEW]Overview Overview mode The text and graphics that appear on a LUNAR screen are just an enlarged version of a section of the 'real' screen. This can be demonstrated as follows: Enter LUNAR's Overview facility, by pressing and and . You will see the screen change to a normal display and a rectangle appear in reverse video on the screen. This is called LUNAR's Overview facility because it gives you an overview of the 'real' screen. The text that appears in the rectangle is what LUNAR magnifies. Move the rectangle around by moving the mouse. Finally, leave LUNAR's Overview facility, by pressing any key or clicking any mouse button. [IDCHANGEFRAME]Frames Frames LUNAR has four scroll margins at the top, bottom, left and right hand side of the screen. These four margins are collectively known as a frame. LUNAR has two types of frame: 1. A Mouse Frame 2. A Cursor Frame As soon as the mouse pointer is moved into the Mouse Frame, LUNAR will attempt to scroll the screen in the appropriate direction. Similarly, as soon as the text entry cursor is moved into the Cursor Frame, LUNAR will attempt to scroll the screen in the appropriate direction [] To change the scroll margins: Click on the MOUSE FRAME button to change the mouse scroll margins. OR Click on the CURSOR FRAME button to change the text entry cursor scroll margins. In the Adjust Cursor Frame or Adjust Mouse Frame dialog box there are a number of controls. You can now change the individual margins of the frame by altering the Top/Bottom/Left/Right scroll bars. The number indicated represents the margin width as a percentage of the distance from the edge to the centre of the screen. You may also select one of 3 preset frame sizes by clicking on the appropriate button. [IDFRAMESLIDERS]Scroll margin scroll bars Scroll margins These 4 scroll bars let you set the width of the top, bottom, left and right scroll margins. The number indicated represents the margin position as a percentage of the distance from the edge to the centre of the screen and is independent of the magnification level. To alter these values, use the cursor keys or click and drag the scroll bar with the mouse. [IDFRAMEPRESETS]Frame presets Frame presets You may select one of 3 preset frame sizes by clicking on the appropriate button. The sizes are 10, 60 and 99. If you select 99, the mouse pointer will be locked into the centre of the display (except when you reach the edge of the screen or window). [IDMOVEMENT]Movement Movement The movement settings determine the distance the LUNAR screen will scroll by, when you move the mouse into a frame. [IDFLIPSIZEH]Horizontal Move Horizontal Move You can change the horizontal distance that the LUNAR screen scrolls by when you enter the left or right scroll margin. You do this by altering the Horizontal Move scroll bar. The measurement is in pixels [IDFLIPSIZEV]Vertical Move Vertical Move You can change the vertical distance that the LUNAR screen scrolls by when you enter the top or bottom scroll margin. You do this by altering the Vertical Move scroll bar. [IDMENUMARGIN]Menu Margin Menu Margin When Windows displays a menu, you can alter how much of the menu (how many options) are displayed above and below the currently selected option. In other words, you can choose to always place a highlighted menu option about half way down the enlarged screen, or to have it moving close to the top or bottom of the screen. You can do this by altering the Menu Margin setting. This determines the vertical frame size when a menu is displayed. [IDREADING]Line View Line View mode Line View mode allows you to view the currently selected window as a single line moving across the centre of the LUNAR screen. This is a form of the popular 'scrolling' feature of our earlier software. To enter Line View mode, press: and and To start the text scrolling, press: To leave it, press: [] While in Line View mode: To start or stop a smooth scroll of the currently selected window across the LUNAR screen, press: To increase the speed of the scroll, press: To decrease the speed of the scroll, press: To directly select the speed of the scroll, press: <1-7> (1=slowest, 7=fastest) To move to start of the previous line, press: To move to start of the next line, press: To move forward three quarters of a screenful, press: To increase magnification, press: To decrease magnification, press: To quit, press: [] You may find it convenient to control Line View mode entirely from the numeric keypad using the above keys. On the LUNAR display new lines are denoted by ||. On machines with an LCD display, the continuous scrolling in Line View mode will almost certainly appear as a blur on the screen. This is due to time that is takes the crystals to change their orientation. So the best method of viewing text in Line View mode on an LCD display is to advance three quarters of a screenful at a time using the key, rather than using to continuously scroll the text. [] To change the way Line View mode works: Click on the LINE VIEW button. This will bring up the Line View Settings dialog box, which lets you do the following: 1. Control whether or not new lines are shown. 2. Set the minimum height in pixels of the text/graphics to be Line Viewed. 3. Set the minimum height in pixels of the space between lines. [IDLINEBREAK]Display Line Breaks Display Line Breaks This check box controls whether or not new lines are shown. [IDMIDGAP]Minimum Line Gap Minimum Line Gap Sets the minimum height in pixels of the space between lines. [IDMINFONT]Minimum Font Size Minimum Font Size Sets the minimum height in pixels of the text/graphics to be Line Viewed. [IDAPPSETTINGS]Settings Settings You can have different LUNAR settings for each Windows application that you use. LUNAR will automatically save the settings for each application in an .INI file. Applications are identified automatically by LUNAR, and the name of the currently running application is displayed in the LUNAR control panel. When an application is run, LUNAR searches its list of known applications and loads the appropriate settings for that application. If LUNAR finds a new application that it hasn't encountered before it is set to use the default settings. For each application you can specify whether it uses its own settings, or the default application settings. [IDAPPLICATION]Application Selection Application Selection This list-box displays the application name that you are changing the settings for. When you enter LUNAR normally the application that you switched from will be selected automatically. Only applications that are currently running are displayed therefore to change the settings for an application you must first load that application. When you are changing settings, the actual settings in effect will be those for LUNAR (because it is LUNAR that is currently active), and the settings for the application that you are editing will not take effect until you return to that application. To edit the settings for LUNAR, you must select LUNAR from the Application list. [IDAPPSETTINGS]Use Application Settings Use Application Settings If 'Use Application Settings' is selected, the application displayed in the application box has its own settings. The state of all the controls in LUNAR's control panel reflect the applications settings. [IDDEFAULTSETTINGS]Use Default Settings Use Default Settings If 'Use Default Settings' is selected then the program displayed in the application box used the 'Default Application Settings'. All the controls in LUNAR's control panel are greyed out, and you may not alter them. To change the 'Default Application Settings' you must select it from the application list (it is always the first item). LUNAR will still remember the applications custom settings, even if it set to use 'Default Settings'. [IDSETDEFAULT]Copy Default Copy Default The COPY DEFAULT button copies the 'Default Application Settings' in to the current application settings overwriting the existing settings. [IDPOINTERCOLOUR]Pointer Colour Pointer Colour To change the colour of the mouse pointer for an application: 1. Select the application for which you wish to change the mouse pointer colour. (Do this from LUNAR's 'Application' list-box.) 2. Click on the POINTER COLOUR button. Each successive click on the POINTER COLOUR button will cycle the mouse pointer colour bar, (positioned directly under the POINTER COLOUR button), through a range of 9 colours. (The colour of this bar indicates the colour that the mouse pointer will change to when using this application.) [IDSETHOTKEYS]Set Hot Keys Set Hot Keys You can change the hot keys for the various LUNAR actions. A hot key combination is defined as one or more of the Shift, Ctrl and Alt keys (called the modifier keys), plus one other key on the keyboard (called the action key). There is no distinction between the left and right Shift and Ctrl keys. The right Alt key on extended keyboards (labelled as "Alt Gr") is treated by LUNAR as a Ctrl-Alt combination. The modifier keys may be pressed in any order (or previously held down) while the action key is pressed. The action key selected represent the physical key on the keyboard, regardless of the state of Num-Lock on the numeric keypad. The action key may be any key with the exception of Caps Lock, Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Print Screen, Scroll Lock, Pause & Num-Lock. Different Windows applications work with different keystrokes. You might want to change LUNAR's hot keys so that they differ from your application's keystrokes. Beware of setting hot keys that clash with your application's hot keys. [] A hot key combination recognised by LUNAR will be discarded and NOT passed onto the application. To alter the hot keys click on the SET HOT KEYS button. This will pop up the Set Hot Keys dialog box in which you may adjust LUNAR's hot keys for a particular application: As soon as you click OK in this box, the chosen hot keys will be active for the application displayed in the 'Application' list-box. [IDHOTKEYLIST]Hot Key Action Hot Key Action The hot key action display the current hot key that you are defining. These are: Magnify - enlarge by a factor of 2x Reduce - shrink by a factor of 2x 1x to 8x Magnifications - select a magnification Overview - enter overview mode (see Overview mode) Line View - scroll the current window (see Line View mode) You may not select a hot key that clashes with any other hot key, or one that is the same as a common Windows hot key (such as and ). [IDHOTKEYALT]Modifier Keys Modifier Keys The Alt, Ctrl and Shift check boxes show the state of the modifier keys for the hot key. If the check box is selected then that key must be pressed for the hot key to work. You may have any combination of these controls selected to define your hot key. Be careful when using the Alt key, because this is Windows 'Menu' key and you may experience side effects when using it. The 'Alt Gr' key on the keyboard activates both Ctrl and Alt at the same time. [IDHOTKEYKEY]Hot Key Selection Hot Key Selection This pull down box lists all the possible key selections that you have use as a hot key. Click on the one you want to use. The key list represents the physical keys on the keyboard, regardless of the state of the Num-lock key. Numeric key pad keys are all prefixed with 'Num-Pad'. [IDCLOSE]OK Button OK Button Click on the OK button to confirm any selection you may have made and exit the dialog box. [IDRESTRICT]Stay to Window Stay to Window If the 'Stay in Window' check box is selected, artificial mouse boundaries are created around the currently selected window. This places a restriction on the mouse pointer, so the display does not easily move away from the current window. These mouse boundaries are removed if you move the pointer beyond the edge of the window. (You need to try this yourself to see the effect). [IDCENTERMENU]Centring Centring If the 'Centring' check box is selected, then objects such as menus and small dialogue boxes will be centred on the display (if they will fit). If 'Centring' is not selected, the display will move the minimum amount possible to make the object completely visible. If the object is too large for the display, then it may be aligned to the top left of the screen, depending on the setting of 'Top left of Window'. [IDTOPLEFT]Top Left of Window Top Left of Window If the current focus is bigger than 32 pixels high, (about 5cm in 4x magnification), it is considered by LUNAR to be a main window, as opposed to being a gadget or control. If this is selected, then LUNAR will move to the top left of such windows when they are selected. If it is not selected, LUNAR will move the minimum distance it can to get the window wholly on the display. If the window is smaller than the display then the 'Centring' setting will apply instead. In some programs (e.g. Corel Draw and Aldus Pagemaker 4.0) the application changes the focus by itself, and this can cause LUNAR to jump around the display. Turning this option 'off' will prevent this and make such programs more usable. [IDTRACK]Tracking Strategy Tracking Strategy LUNAR's strategy is to follow the most recent change of focus. This means that if you move the mouse, press a key, pop up a dialog box, or pull down a menu, LUNAR will magnify the part of the screen that changes as a result. The mouse has maximum priority, so you will always be able to use the mouse to move around the screen. LUNAR remembers where the most recent input came from and will only track such input. This means that you may use the mouse to move away from a text entry cursor and the display will follow the mouse without jumping back to the cursor. You may move back to a text entry cursor after moving away with the mouse (providing Follow Cursors is enabled) by pressing any key on the keyboard, which will instruct LUNAR to follow the keyboard focus. You may press the key to do this which will not cause the cursor to move. [] When a menu is selected from the keyboard, LUNAR remembers the previous position of the screen. Providing that the mouse is not moved during the menu selection process, LUNAR will return to that previous position after you exit the menu. To prevent too much jumping of the display and to speed things up, the display is frozen whilst Windows is busy. This means that you will not be able to watch the display being updated by Windows, but will have to wait until updates are completed before regaining control. To display continuously changing images (such as the Windows clock) the display is updated roughly twice a second if the mouse is stationary and no keys are being pressed. [IDSNAPON]Mouse to Screen Mouse to Screen If 'Mouse to Screen' is selected, then one of three things will happen: 1. If the mouse pointer is not visible, the pointer is repositioned in the centre of the display, without moving the display. 2. If the mouse pointer is visible, but is within the frame region, it is repositioned with as little movement as possible so that it is no longer within the frame region. [IDSNAPOFF]Screen to Mouse Screen to Mouse If 'Screen to Mouse' is selected, the magnified display window will jump to the position of the mouse pointer. [IDPTOM]Mouse to Focus Mouse to Focus If this check box is selected, then the mouse pointer will be moved automatically to the vicinity of the current focus, when you change the current focus from the keyboard. [IDFOLLOWCURSORS]Follow Cursors Follow Cursors This follows any text entry cursor, such as in your word processor. [IDFOLLOWOBJECTS]Follow Objects Follow Objects If this check box is selected LUNAR will follow highlighted text, such as the text under icons, or the file selection highlight in Windows File Manager. In some programs you will not want this "on", as it will clash with 'Follow Cursors'. For example in Microsoft Write the end of text marker is an 'object' and is updated continuously. [IDFOLLOWDRAWING]Follow Everything Follow Everything If LUNAR is not able to follow the focus, try this option, which will follow most drawing operations. [IDMOSTRECENT]Follow Most Recent Follow Most Recent In many programs with a moving cursor or highlighted text area, such as Windows Program Manager or Microsoft Excel, when you move the focus, the program performs two drawing operations, one to erase the image at the previous position and one to draw it at the new position. If the 'Follow Most Recent' check box is selected then LUNAR will track only the most recent drawing operation. [IDBLANKWAIT]VGA Special VGA Special This option may only be needed for old machines with old video cards. If the display flickers when you scroll around with the mouse then try turning this option "on". Warning - Enabling this check box may significantly reduce the speed of your machine. If you still have a flickering problem then consider purchasing a new VGA card. You only need the simplest (cheapest) one you can find. New cards should not suffer from such flickering problems.
