Laptop TV Converts VGA Output to any NTSC (TV) Video Standard Russ Louie The VGA computer display has become the standard with 640 X 480 resolution and a 16-color palette. But what if your club, non- profit organization, company or meeting room doesn't have VGA projection capabilities? The Laptop TV, by Willow peripherals, comes to the rescue. It can convert any VGA output into high- quality NTSC (National Television Standards Committee) signal. The Laptop TV looks like the proverbial black box: it's about the size of a notebook computer and it only weighs 2 1/2 lbs. Plug your computer's VGA output into the box and then connect either the composite (RCA-type plug), S-video (good-quality TV or VCR connection), RF (F-type connector) or RGB (BNC or 15-pin D-type connectors) output from the Laptop TV to your video projector. This accommodates most everything from your home TV and VCR to expensive CGA-compatible Sony 3-Gun projection screens. This is perfect for projecting your computer monitor on a large screen TV for a small class. The Laptop TV will even let you record on video tape all your computer screens for later viewing (or classes). Our club has been laboring with the outdated projection equipment at the University of Colorado meeting room. Only CGA computers work with the Sony 3-Gun projector. Every time a presenter comes with a VGA laptop, we have to borrow an LCD projection panel and an overhead projector for the meeting. With the Laptop TV we are able to connect up directly to the projector using the Red, Green, Blue and Vertical Sync BNC connectors. This produces a full screen, color image of amazing quality on the auditorium screen. Windows programs, with all their fancy colored icons, work great. CorelDraw produced a very impressive demo with its color resolution. We prefer the laptop TV to the much more expensive ($4-6,000) color LCD panels because the colors are more true and the projected image much larger and therefore easier to see in the audience. There are five controls on the front panel for Vertical Position, Horizontal Position, Horizontal Overscan, Anti-Jitter filter and Chroma Switch. These help you adjust the quality and position of the picture. The is also a jack on the back to connect an external monitor for viewing while demonstrating.
