WARNING TO ALL SHAREWARE USERS FROM JAY LICHTENSTEIN - AUTHOR OF THE RECIPE PROCESSOR Shareware users planning to register with software Authors please take note: A rather dishonest individual in Simsbury CT. has placed her name and address in the software manuals and order forms of various shareware programs, and has added instructions to send all checks directly to her, rather then the program Company/Author. Of course, the user receives nothing in return for registation, as the software Company/Author is unaware of the attempted registration. While she only tampered with BBS's in CT., the tampered programs move quickly via the shareware process. To ensure that you are registering with the proper Company/Author, make sure the name and address in the program match the name and address that is on the order form. If there is a difference, it is best to use the name and address that is contained in the program itself. Most programs contain checks to prevent tampering with this information, and when changed, the program refuses to run. If in doubt, call the program Author or Software company to get the proper address. While I have only received one such complaint, I am sure that this individual has done the same with dozens of other shareware programs. Please spread this warning around to other BBS's to warn users of this type of mail fraud.
