October 6, 1991 I've uploaded the most recent version (v.1.03) of FRACTION FONTS for Windows. There are four modifications to the previous versions worth noting . . . 1. At the request of several SYSOPs, the archive is now in ZIP format, rather than EXE (which was a self-extracting ZIP). 2. The fonts have been rebuilt using a different encoding scheme. This results in about an 18% decrease in font file size. 3. The "FRACFONT.WRI" file has been totally recomposed. This file gave some new users fits -- it appeared as a chaos of meaningless characters in Windows Write. This had nothing to do with FRACTION FONTS in any version. I just happened to have written the original "FRACFONT.WRI" using the store-bought version (1.0) of ATM. In this file all text except fractions was identified as either "TIMES" or "HELVETICA" rather than "Tms Rmn" or "Helv". Consequently, ATM's Alias and Synonym functions weren't being used. Then, along came PageMaker 4.0 with an OEM version of ATM (1.1) and a diskfull of free fonts. Later, Lotus did the same with ATM (1.5). Alias and Synonym functions were necessary to identify Ariel, Gill Sans, and Times New Roman as the logical counterparts of Tms Rmn and Helv. To make a long story short, the updated version of "FRACFONT.WRI" should work with any correctly installed version of ATM that references Aliases and Synonyms for Tms Rmn and Helv. 4. The major modification in v.1.03 is the inclusion of alternate Degree Signs. This is to compensate for idiosyncrasies in how ATM, PCL, PostScript, and dot matrix printers handle this symbol. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused. I hope everyone enjoys this sample of FRACTION FONTS for Windows.
