He served three terms in the House of Representatives (1979-1985) and is currently completing his fourth term in the state Senate. Mike has made housing a priority in his campaign for governor. He has called for a state housing program that would take advantage of the current low interest rates. In addition, as a legislator Mike has been active on housing issues: ù Mike was the lead Senate sponsor of a comprehensive lead poisoning prevention bill, which passed in 1987. The legislation, which created a program of loans and grants to enable homeowners and landlords to delead, represented the first update of the original 1971 lead poisoning prevention act. Mike also worked extensively on the 1993 revision of the lead poisoning law. ù In 1987, Mike successfully added an amendment to the affordable housing bill to fund a deleading program for owners of subsidized apartments. ù Mike was a sponsor of the Housing Bill of Rights for the Disabled. ù Mike has been endorsed in past elections by the Mass. Tenants Organization's Political Action Committee.
