The Xmit mod for the W2A seems to be everywhere, but the receive mod
seems to be hard to come by, so here it is. The W2A is capable of receiving
up into the 900mhz region with decent sensativity, even 220Mhz is possibe
(but with low sensativity). After you perform these steps, hitting the
#/ent/lock button will let you type in all 6 digits of the frequency.

Turn off the radio

Push and hold buttons 3-B-#

While holding the above, turn the radio on, wait a couple seconds and let
go of all the buttons.

Put the radio (both sides already in VFO mode) into "set mode" by
pressing Function 8.

Press the up/down arrow buttons until "PL" in displayed in bottom of LCD.

Turn tuning knob (top) until "100" is displayed.

Push PTT to clear set mode

That's it. Beware that it's rumoured that this will not work for the newest
W2A's, but when I asked ICOM about the mod, they didn't mention anything.
