The patient had dramatic, wide-spread ulcerative and infiltrative disease with progressive meningoencephalitis in spite of amphotericin and itraconazole therapy. Sporothrix was cultured from premortem cerebrospinal fluid and seen in the meninges and in brain vessels at autopsy.
