Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94371592 AB OBJECTIVE: To improve diagnosis of, and reduce drugs for treating opportunistic conditions. METHODS: Existing clinical guidelines were updated through multisectoral consensus. Training workshops were conducted for selected personnel in accurate diagnosis and appropriate medication. Guidelines were field-tested for and revised. RESULTS: Most patients were managed with less than 3 different drugs and the duration of usage reduced to less than 5 days. CONCLUSION: Rational drug use will reduce costs. Extensive training is required for country-wide application of the standard.
