Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370535 AB CONCERN is an Irish NGO operating in Rakai District-Uganda, to address the Social Economic Consequences of AIDS. OBJECTIVES: (1) To find out coping stratagies of families and individuals affected by AIDS. (2) To bring together people of different economic status to identify their problems to find solutions. METHODS: (1) Trainings given to individuals and groups to help identify problems through discussions. (2) Referrals are made to hospitals, other NGOs and application of herbal medicine within their community encouraged. (3) Material support is given and income generating activities (IGAs) established for orphans. (4) Emphasis towards positive living for HIV/AIDS clients is encouraged. RESULTS: (1) Home-care programme by Home-care volunteers have been established within the communities to help AIDS patients within homes. (2) Villages and individual income generating projects have been set up. (3) Orphans have been sent to schools. (4) Youth/women groups have come up with Drama, Poems, Songs and Sports activities to raise AIDS awareness information acquired from Seminars to the entire community. All these activities are manned by the community and supported by CONCERN. CONCLUSION: The programme tries to alleviate the situation towards the AIDS pandemic we have come up with constructive ideas and ways to prolong our lives to fulfil plans for children and preventive measure for the future generation.
