Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370135 AB In Italy the diffusion of HIV infection is particularly sustained by drug-abusers (DA) (66.1% of the total AIDS cases). The aim of this study is to evaluate the annual trend in HIV-test applications in the period from 1985 to 1993 of 13,272 subjects who underwent the test because they were DA and to evaluate the percentage of seropositive DAs subdivided according to sex. The results are reported in the table below. TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. The results show a decrease in HIV-test applications in DAs. For the percentage of seropositivity, there is a significant decrease in men (from 48.9% in 1985 to 20.2% in 1993) whilst in women there is an alternating trend (60% in '85, 47.5% in '90, 20.2% in '93). Further observations will be necessary in order to confirm this last finding.
