Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370083 AB OBJECTIVES: To monitor the prevalence of HIV seropositivity in gay and bisexual men attending the genitourinary clinic of St Thomas' hospital, London. METHODS: For periods of each year since 1988, all patients being routinely tested for syphilis serology have had a doctor administered demographic and sexual behaviour questionnaire completed. These patients are offered HIV testing; the result may remain anonymous if wished but is linked to the questionnaire data. RESULTS: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. CONCLUSION: There has been an encouraging decline in overall seroprevalence amongst this group of gay men. However the continuing presence of seropositive patients in the 15-20 age group and the likelihood this represents more recent infection is of concern. There does appear to be a trend to increasing numbers of partners though it is unclear whether this equates to high risk behaviour.
