METHODS: HIV/AIDS Cases Registry was analysed. RESULTS: Up to Jan 1994 17387 cases have been notified in Mexico. Trends are as follows: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. DISCUSSION: AIDS epidemic in Mexico has become relatively more heterosexual, although men with homosexual practices continue to be main transmission category. Heterosexualization has been more significant among women as blood associated cases have diminished as a consequence of preventive measures; ruralization is also important. Although survival has improved it is still shorter than in developed areas.
