METHODS: analysis of the results of epidemiological investigation (contact tracing, partner notification) of HIV-infection cases in Russian citizens reported up to December 31, 1993. RESULTS: Since 1987 up to December 31, 1993 120052601 blood samples were tested and 717 HIV-positive persons were identified among citizens of Russia. TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Though Russia is classified as Pattern 3 area, the predominant way of HIV-transmission in Russia is homosexual.
