Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94369918 AB OBJECTIVES: To assess an HIV-IgA Immunoblot to be used in early diagnosis of pediatric AIDS. METHODS: Forty five frozen serum samples from children born to seropositive mothers were analized in comparison to co-culture as a standard. Children clinical status was:P0 (n = 19); P1 (n = 2) and P2 (n = 24). Immunoblot was performed using an In house method after IgG precipitation. RESULTS: Patients were divided in two groups. A: 3-6 months and B: older than 6 months of age. TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. CONCLUSIONS: The test showed a good correlation with co-culture in the population over 6 months of age. This assay is a good alternative to be used in diagnosis of HIV infection in pediatrics in developing countries.
