Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94369909 AB OBJECTIVE: To study the serological reactivity of samples collected from 7 HIV1 subtype O infected patients PATIENTS-METHOD: 7 patients (CDCII-III n = 3, CDC IV n = 4) originally from Cameroon were hospitalised in Paris, France. HIV1 subtype O infection was diagnosed by using PCR specific subtype O primers and serological reactivity on specific Env subtype peptides. Sequential samples were tested on different HIV1-2 EIA and rapid tests based on different antigens and conjugate principles. RESULTS: Discordant results were observed according to the antigen or to the conjugate used in the test. All the samples were strongly reactive in EIA based on whole virus or recombinant antigens with indirect conjugate fixation as shown in the table. CONCLUSION: Screening test for HIV antibodies based on Env peptides or the sandwich method could lack sensitivity in the case of HIV1 subtype O infection. TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME.
