SO Int Conf AIDS. 1994 Aug 7-12;10(1):215 (abstract no. PB0289). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94369747 AB OBJECTIVE: To assess whether Korean Red Ginseng(RG) affect the immune activation markers and CD4 cells in HIV seropositive individuals (HIV+), and has synergic effect with Zidovudine (ZDV). METHODS: HIV+ (n-145) were randomly selected and divided into 4 groups: no treatment (NO), ZDV, RG, and ZDV+RG combination(COM). CD4 cells were measured by flow cytometry, serum soluble CD8(sCD8) level and HIV p24 antigen by commercial ELISA Kits, and beta 2 microglobulin(beta 2M) by RIA Kit. Data were analysed by paired t-test and Chi-square test. RESULTS: Serum HIV p24 antigen decreased in 9 out of 13 HIV+ in COM. TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. CONCLUSIONS: KRG singly has positive effects on HIV individuals. Combination of KRG and ZDV has synergic effects.
