Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94369538 AB OBJECTIVE: To define by flow cytometry reference ranges on the absolute no. and relative percentage of total T-lymphocyte (CD3+), T-helper (CD4+), T-suppressor (CD8+) in healthy Chinese. METHOD: A FACScan flow cytometer, SimulSET software, and conjugate monoclonal reagents (Simultest IMKPlus) were used to analyse 207 health adults (130 females, 77 males) aged between 20 and 71, and to study the possible effects of sex and age. RESULTS: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. Further analysis showed significant difference (P < 0.025) for sex, and positive correlation with age for CD4+ percent. CONCLUSION: This set of data may be useful for establishment of quality control criteria for flow cytometry laboratories. Significant differences compared with Caucasian population means that present regimens for prophylaxis and treatment that are based solely on CD4+ counts may need to be modified when applied to the Chinese population.
