SO Int Conf AIDS. 1994 Aug 7-12;10(1):167 (abstract no. PB0096). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94369532 AB OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the pronostic usefulness of p24 Ab cuantitation in HIV infection. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 61 patients HIV positive were included. Anti p24 from Boehringer Mannheim was ran. We used: Elisa test from Organon Teknika and Abbott Laboratories; confirmatory test from Organon Teknika (Western Blot and LiaTek), HIV antigen (with previous acid disociation) from Abbott Laboratories and CD4/CD8 count by IFA, using Boehringer Mannheim Antibody. RESULTS: In 15 (25%) out of 61 patients the HIV Ag was positive, with a rate of 290 U/ml (50 to 550 U/ml) anti P24 Ab < or = 7 U/ml and the rate of CD4 527/mm3 (97 to 952/mm3) and CD8 793/mm3 (199 to 1523/mm3). In 46 (75%) patients the HIV Ag was negative. 30 (65%) have Anti HIV Ab titer < or = 7.0 U/ml with CD4 rate 503/mm3 (70 to 866/mm3) and CD8 742/mm3 (211 to 1441/mm3). In 16 (35%) The Anti P24 Ab was > or = 66.0 (66 to 156/mm3) with a CD4 count 784/mm3 (630 to 1309mm3) and CD8 909/mm3 (642 to 1496mm3). Table I shows the comparative results of different markers. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: 1) Anti p24 Ab seems to be a more releable marker than CD4/CD8 and HIV Ag (p < 0.05) in the progression of HIV infection. Whereas CD4/CD8 count remain stable, the HIV Ag level is not significative statistically (p < 0.05). 2) The balance between the shyntesys of antibody by the immune sistem and its role as a neutralizing antibody apparently has direct influence in the level of Anti HIV p24 Ab.
