SO Int Conf AIDS. 1994 Aug 7-12;10(1):163 (abstract no. PB0078). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94369516 AB With reference to a study about the ratio CD5+/CD8+ as evolution marker during HIV infection (Valguarnera e coll.), we studied 90 subjects HIV infected in differents stages of disease (25 asymptomatics patients, 30 LAS, 20 ARC, 15 AIDS) and compared them with the homogeneous group of healthy HIV negative subjects. The lymphocitic subpopulations were studied with cytofluorimetric method using monoclonal antibodies (Ortho Diagnostic System). We observed in HIV positive subjects, during the disease the early gradual decrease of the percentage ratio CD5+/CD8+ and also how this decrease maybe already demonstrated some weeks before symptom onset. This observation allowed us to predict tho onset of the LAS in 4 asymptomatics patients and the onset of the opportunistic infection in 4 ARC patients. We are trying to confirm this observation with a study on a bigger group of subjects, because the percentage ratio CD5+/CD8+ could be, in the future, a very important help for the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment in HIV infection.
