Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94369297 AB OBJECTIVE: To analyze the V3 region of HIV-1 gp120 from saliva and to consider the diversity of HIV-1 from the other organs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The saliva and blood samples from HIV positive patients were collected and HIV DNAs and RNAs were extracted by glass powder. TA cloning substances of PCR or RT-PCR products with primers of the V3 region were sequenced in several clones in each sample. The results were compared each other and standard strains. RESULTS: The sequences were more likely to those from macrophage-tropic cells (SF-162mc strain) than lymphocyte-tropic cells (MN strain). DISCUSSION: Saliva is easy to use for clinical diagnosis and for research. The sequence indicates that saliva would be meaningful to consider the pathogenesis of HIV infection.
