Subject

Error message "This function is not supported" appears when playing 
compressed wave files using Wave Studio or SoundO'le.

Description

Many sound card manufacturers adopt their own audio compression scheme 
which is not compatible to our own Creative audio compression.  Attempting to 
play such files will result in following error message:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
   "This function is not supported.  Use the Capabilities function to
    determine which functions and message the driver supports."
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Attempting to play the same file in DOS using WPLAY.EXE version 1.03 will 
produce error message "Error WPLAY41: Unable to locate code file 
C:\SB16\ASP\WO0002.ASP".  The message will also vary depends on the 
version of WPLAY.EXE being used.

Solution/Action

As these problems are due to different implementation of audio compression by 
different vendors, there is currently no solution to this problem but take notice 
that similar problems will occur on other vendors' sound card which does 
not support Creative ADPCM & the standard CCITT A-law & *-law audio 
compression format.
