Technical Support Note Product(s) involve : CD ROM drives Third party product(s) : Microsoft Media Player Subject CD Audio option not available in the "Device" menu when running media player. Thus cannot play CD Audio disk. Description User will encounter the above mentioned problem after a new installation of Windows 3.1 with [MCI CD Audio]. The reason is when installing the MCI CD Audio driver, it will check the existent of CD title in the CDROM and "remember" this status. However, in the case of no CD title in the CDROM, there is no error message to reflect the status and the installation will still complete with the message "One CD ROM drive detected". Therefore if user install the [MCI] CD Audio driver without inserting a CD title in the CD ROM drive, the installation will still complete, however, when he/she run the media player and select the "Device" menu, CD Audio is not available. Solution/Action There are two solutions to this problem: 1. Insert a CD title into the CDROM drive and reinstall the [MCI] CD Audio driver again. 2. Exit Windows, use an editor to edit a file called MPLAYER.INI in the WINDOWS directory and delete the line that contains CDAudio under the [devices] section and restart Windows again. For example: [devices] WaveAudio=350, Sound Sequencer=286, MIDI Sequencer AVIVideo=350, Video for Windows CDAudio=0, ===> Delete this line
