Technical Support Note ====================== Product(s) involve : Sound Blaster 16 MCD (Mitsumi Interface) : Sound Blaster Pro (Mitsumi Interfacee) : Sound Blaster 16 (Mitsumi Interface) Third party product(s) : Gateway 2000 P5-60 Pentium system Subject ------- System unable to boot up after installing any of the above-mentioned Sound Blaster cards into the system. Description ----------- The Gateway 2000 P5-60 pentium system consists of a Mitsumi CDROM drive and its own interface card. Users may encounter the above problem after installing the SB16MCD, SBP (Mitsumi) or SB16 (Mitsumi) card into their system and connect the Mitsumi drive to any of these cards. The cause of the problem is because the IDE controller in the Gateway 2000 P5-60 system and SB16MCD (Mitsumi interface), SBP (Mitsumi) and SB16 (Mitsumi) are using the same DMA channel - 7. Therefore, the hard drive(s) could not be initialised properly when booting up. Solution/Action --------------- This problem can be solved by changing the DMA channel on the SB16MCD, SBP (Mitsumi) and SB16 (Mitsumi) card from 7 to 6 so that it will not crash with the IDE controller. Please note that any other interface cards that use DMA channel 7 are also subjected to crash with the SB16MCD (Mitsumi), SBP Mitsumi and SB16 Mitsumi cards. The symptom(s) may vary with different systems. 3rd January, 1994 Issue No: TSN94001 Technical Services Department, Creative Technology Ltd
