Use your favorite communications program and modem to gain access to our tech notes and support files, or to leave your questions with our SYStem OPerator (SYSOP. During your first visit to the Stac BBS, you'll be asked to enter some background information. One of the things you'll be asked for is a password. Use any word you like, but write it down and remember it; you'll be asked for it on subsequent calls. Downloading/Uploading files. Before uploading or downloading, select the protocol you're going to use from the Main menu. For example, enter "T Z" for Zmodem. To download a file, you must issue the "D " command at the Main menu prompt (the SPACE is essential.) For example, to download TechNote A2507: D A2507.DOC Note: With many communications software such as ProComm, you must then press the Page down key to select the matching protocol on your end and begin the transfer. (Your communications program may use another key or keystroke combination.) Uploading is similar. Issue the "U " command at the Main menu prompt. This time you'll need to press the Page Up key (or other key appropriate for your software) to select the protocol and begin the transfer. Leaving a message for the Sysop. The BBS SYSOP is here to answer your questions. To leave a message, enter 'C' (for Comment) at the Main menu prompt. This will put you into an Editor. After leaving your message, press the Esc key, then 'S' to save. If you believe you are having a Stacker-related problem, be sure to upload your SYSINFO information. Call back 24 hours later to read the reply. Supported transfer protocols. The Stac BBS has 5 public conferences. The MAIN Conference is for general things, and has a few directories containing some shareware utilities and files. Conference 1, "DOSWIN" is where you'll find tech notes, Stacker utilities and DOS upgrade batch files related to Stacker for DOS & Windows, version 1 through 3; Conference 2, "MAC", is for everything related to Stacker for MAC; Conference 3, "OS2", is for everything reletaed to Stacker for OS/2; and Conference 4, "VE" is for everything related to Stacker Value Edition. To join a conference, type J, a space, and the name OR number of the Conference. Such as "J DOSWIN" OR "J 1"to join the Stacker for DOS & Windows Conference. Connection difficulties: If you are having connection difficulities with the Stac BBS, check your modem documentation for the proper settings. Here are some other things to try: 1. Increase the time that your communication program waits to connect. Try setting it for a value between 45 and 60 seconds. 2. Lower the baud rate connect setting to 2400 or 1200.
